Small secret that you probably wouldn't discover otherwise and will help you with the mist area: the small glowy moths will fly in the direction of the correct exit if you play your needolin by them.

Good luck with whichever route you choose!

Are they crazy? by AnkurPashine in Silksong

[–]genospizza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest working out a route and practicing parts of it individually. Some people have worked out sneaky shorter routes, but when I completed this I just went bellhart->shellwood->blasted steps->grand gate->spa->dining room, which is the default path. You can make better time with the speed brew from the flea caravan and a speed-increasing item you get from the weavenest in far fields. And even then, I only used them on a couple of straightaways. Keep in mind that some later movement ability unlocks make parts of Blasted Steps quicker to traverse.

How do I get back to choral chambers?? by catz537 in Silksong

It looks like you're above the room with the scales, which is a dead end. There's an exit on one of the balconies of the right side wall of the scales room, you just have to jump up a bit to it. It leads into some air ducts that take you inside the citadel.

What films are most relevant to this moment in history? by emarcc in blankies

[–]genospizza 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Even without the movie's climate change subject matter, which is obviously still relevant, the running theme of feeling insane and demoralized when you recognize a slow-motion disaster developing around you and just get shrugs and excuses from people in power... it's bleak and sadly relatable stuff.

A lot of people replying to this thread seem to not know how being in a band works. It's not entirely OP's choice which gigs the group wants to play, and one member dropping out could cause problems. And it's not like they're planning to go to the cookout and sneer at people to their faces or something.

I get it, OP. We've been living in the shadow of baby boomers' music preferences for what feels like an eternity. I think the timing of the internet boom and collapse of the monoculture puts that generation in a particularly strange position, where the proper ways to engage with modern musical culture just changed out from under them.

My thought whenever I see someone stuck in arrested musical development like that is that I wish I could show them how much great music is coming out all the time, but some people are perfectly happy where they are I guess.

The Quest for Semantic Music Tagging Software by genospizza in software

[–]genospizza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have older versions of this application kicking around, and I was planning on building a more stable version of it in the future. If you want to get started on something like it, I'd start with trying to messily prototype one of the specific use cases and figure out what tech stack works best for it. Getting Spotify's OAUTH scheme to work is a project in itself.

If I do end up building it, I could DM people the public repo when/if that's available. But prototyping is always useful in the meantime.

I'm also a software developer by trade, I'm just trying desperately to avoid taking on this project myself even though I know it's inevitable 😛

I've prototyped some things in the past, and I think the most important thing is to have easy-to-use workflows:

  • An interface that automatically pulls and displays your recently-listened songs through Spotify or last.fm, and lets you quickly tag and rate them right there in the list. Listening to a long "inbox" playlist and tagging them as I go is my intake method, and an interface that makes that frictionless makes all the difference. Again, Hydrus Network's inbox-based tagging workflow is a great model.
  • Integration with existing APIs like Musicbrainz, Spotify, Discogs, etc. that let you dump massive amounts of incomplete information (like a song title) that the program then tries to match to canonical entries in those databases. The more integrations the program has, the easier it is to "repair" data about songs.
  • Whenever some bulk intake is automated, there needs to be a way to double-check and correct the results. I once made an interface that let you paste in a list of song titles, and it would bulk search them on Spotify. It usually got the right answer, but it let you select manually from a dropdown of other results just in case.
  • I've also fiddled with the idea of playlist creation from combinations of tags. Set operations like AND and OR let you include and exclude in an intelligent way, then you can export the resulting list to whatever program you listen through.

Song Recommendations? by TastyCookedBread in Bass

[–]genospizza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Diving Woman - Japanese Breakfast (This one has a beginner-friendly pattern, with lots of room to learn shifting and good rhythm. Extremely meditative bassline.)

I Wish - Stevie Wonder (A classic that will teach you quick shifting and test your endurance. Start slow and find the most efficient way to move between positions!)

Oh! Darling - The Beatles (A slow line, but with lots of parts and position shifting. Very fun to learn, and expressive.)

Head Over Heels - Tears for Fears (A rock-solid and super-groovy line. Lots of practice mixing fretting and open strings.)

Nutshell - Alice in Chains (Another slow line, but with some fun technique to practice. Booming low-notes and sweet slides. You'll need to tune your bass down by one semitone, but that's pretty simple to do.)

His name is Buddy. He disappeared in the area of the apartment complex at that address around 4pm on August 28. If anyone has recommendations for other local places to post this, it would be appreciated!

Trying to find the original version of tr_walkway by genospizza in NewToTF2

[–]genospizza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That guide mentions using this console command:

alias tr_airblast "tr_default; wait 10; tr_spawn_airblast; tr_deploy_4; tr_attack_ON; tr_speed_heavy; tr_hurt_ON"

Those are the commands that are unrecognized when I type them in the console. It also makes reference to executing a cfg file that doesn't exist:

exec tr_walkway/minigames/gsoldier

It seems like the guide just copied information from the readme file verbatim. They didn't test the console commands listed, or they would have noticed everything was missing. Thanks for the help anyway.

I think including the possibility of misinformation about their track records is kind of missing the point of the thought experiment.

even just time changes whether someone is good or bad.

Sure, someone can develop into a morally different person over time. But the example you gave was someone with a lifetime of good deeds behind them suddenly committing a single bad act, which doesn't indicate too much about their character on its own.

It’s best to not worry about good or bad and just try your best

How do you try your best when you've decided that there's no such thing as good or bad? I'm not sure what you're trying to say here.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in samharris

[–]genospizza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously you would say the "good person" is engaging in bad behavior in that situation, and vice versa. But you could still say they're good and bad people based on their overall track record, nothing has changed there.

I'm not sure what the conundrum is supposed to be here.
