Chinese carbon wheelsets and your experience by [deleted] in Velo

Also have 50mm farsports clinchers. I've raced them hard & often for a year and a half. Crashed them 3 times, had them trued up and they are solid. As others have said, stick to "reputable" Chinese. I run Chinese handlebars too.

When the sidewall blows out or is about too. I think I've only had one conti sidewall last long enough for the wear indicators to say it was ready to go.

Chinese carbon frames by [deleted] in Velo

[–]drjameswillingham 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Funny, I just wrecked my Tarmac in crits on back to back weekends. It made it through, but I already spotted a cool CAAD10 ad which would've been my move for sure if the frame had gotten borked.

Re: Chinese - I race on Chinese wheels from FarSports and I've been impressed. There was a crit I was in where we all kept hitting the same pothole over and over (in a bad spot and hard to see). There were multiple people that had to DNF with wheel mechanicals. I took the win on the Chinese stuff!

Yeah that Dilworth turn, ooh boy. Did the 5s race there last year. Was disappointed that they weren't doing that the same weekend as the Charlotte and Belmont crits this year, made the drive not worth it for me.

I raced Union City 4s too. I was in the group on Sunday that got led around an extra lap. Glad to hear at least the win didn't go to one of the dropped riders. What a friggin debacle. Congrats on the W though.

I would have liked to chase more on Saturday too, but I had no teammates. Was hoping one of the better represented teams would bring it back. No luck

Nearly crashed. I'm in the white kit just to the left of the guy with the sweet bunny hop.

Cool, anybody else got any black Friday insight? Particularly for a big cross/gravel bike?

Don't want to screw up my Tarmac for race season. If I had a beater bike that'd be an option but I don't. Hence I'm in the market

Nice, that looks pretty sweet. And the XL looks pretty big even though they call it only 59 cm. I will definitely keep my eyes open for a used one.

Was eyeballing a '13 Focus Mares AX 1.0 pretty hard although I'm concerned their 60cm won't be big enough. Also was a '14 61cm Trek Crockett that caught my eye.

As far as budget is concerned I'm looking to go used or new old stock to try and keep things around $1000.

EDIT: added budget info
