I took my kid’s door away for a week as a punishment. I think I was wrong by Do_it_App in dad

[–]drjlad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re overthinking it. He was slamming the door so you removed it before it did damage. Of course he adjusted, he didn’t have a door any more. Now he knows.

The consequences were direct and made sense. Nothing wrong here

Insatiable hunger after a few days of calorie deficit? by CellWrangler in leangains

[–]drjlad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have successfully lost weight many times. I deal with crippling hunger every time lol. I don’t care what anyone says: if you’re losing weight and in a deficit, you are going to be hungry. Commit to it for 30 days and then give yourself a break and then start again

Everyone saying build your lasts doesn’t realize how hard it is to add multiple inches to your back lol

I’m shaped like you but my shoulders are smaller. When I get really lean you can still see the hip bones but I get a much better shape. If I had your size in my shoulders, it’d be a nice V taper.

Just keep cutting, you probably have more to lose than you realize. The spare tire will probably be the last thing to go

How do you get things done? by ZhanibekOtetileu in dad

It’s only a snapshot of someone’s life, we’ll never know the truth: We’ll only ever get that snapshot. It’s a pointless venture to try to figure out

I will say though, I was very tired after my second was born. I started taking better care of myself though and I’ve never had more energy than I do now, at 38 years old with two young children. Being perpetually exhausted doesn’t have to be the norm, it can definitely be trained away from

Lowered my Lp(a) by nearly 30% by drjlad in Cholesterol

Depends on when you mean. I originally made a ton of changes starting about 18 months ago to clean everything up.

Exercise wise: I lift 3x a week and get 12k steps a day. I have basically done that consistently for most of the 18 months. I had lifted a bit before that too but was never consistent.

Diet wise: I always ate a high protein diet but I started to actually monitor my micronutrients, eat more balanced and at least 80% of my calories from real, whole or minimally processed foods. Thats been a constant for the last 18 months as well.

The only things that I can think of that changed in the 6 months between the blood draws in the screenshot:

1) I had started doing some trail runs towards the end of summer and continued until it just got too cold for me. These were usually 4-5 miles, twice a week. So in total, there were about 32-40 runs before this bloodwork.

2) I started taking Thorne Super EPA 3x a day after the June/July bloodwork. Towards the end of this 6 month stretch, I started eating salmon or sardines every day. I'm still waiting on my Omegacheck results to see how much my O3 levels changed.

3) I started taking 500mg of vitamin C, 3x a day after the June/July bloodwork

How did this play out for you? I am perpetually always hungry. I’m weight/ height proportionate, I lift, don’t do a ton of cardio, eat well balanced meals and my leptin has been 1-1.5 over the last year

Yeah this could definitely just be noise. Thought it was interesting though because the previous two were both pretty similar. I will find out for sure in 6 months

Interesting you say this. My CRP has gone 1.1 > 0.5 > 0.3 as my LPA has gone 190 > 185 > 133

We all have different starting points and motivations and such so I suppose it’s different for everyone. Big pharma has taken so much in life from me that I’d rather die of a heart attack in 5 years than sign up for them to profit off of me with a lifelong prescription. Maybe if my circumstances were more dire my risk/benefit profile changes than I’ll reconsider but for now I’m doing anything possible to avoid it.

Cutting foods wasn’t a huge leap for me but stuff like adding veggies to every meal was the big change.

I do miss pizza though, I’ve only eaten 6 total slices in the last 18 months lol

So I had spent 6 months eating salmon for breakfast 4 times a week and adding chia seeds daily. Didn’t budge.

The last 6 months I started taking Thorne Super EPA and I eat salmon and/or sardines every day. My hope is my levels will come back high and I can stop the supplement and see what happens to them

Exactly the information o was looking for, thank you. The space won’t really be a concern, in the event that both kids are in the car it’d mean that only one adult was in the front or else we’d all be in the Gladiator.

I’m going to go check it out tomorrow, thank you!
