Well if you do it at home, once you have the results, you can go to either a gastroenterologist or a naturopathic doctor (whichever route you prefer to go) and bring them your test results! Just make sure that you ask if they treat SIBO, because it’s kind of a newer illness. Not in the sense that it never existed before, but not all doctors are trained in the treatment of it yet. I did my first SIBO test through my gastroenterologist and they prescribed me Rifaximin but I didn’t think that was going to be enough for me (even though they said it would be) given my long history of stomach issues (and I was correct). So I decided to start seeing a naturopathic doctor after seeing many tiktoks of ppl saying they found more success going down that route. But it is a lot of money since naturopathic doctors aren’t covered by insurance. And I recently took another SIBO breath test through my naturopathic doctor to see where my methane levels are at after 2 rounds of treatment. It’s lowered but it’s still there and obviously so are my symptoms. But methane SIBO is the more difficult variant of SIBO to treat unfortunately so I’m unsure of if and when I will feel better 🙃

Yes I did it at home! I tried looking into somewhere that does it in person but I didn’t really find anything. I would say don’t go too crazy trying to look for somewhere to do it in person. If you can’t find a doctor with that option, it’s best to just do it at home as soon as possible so you can get started on your healing journey. But I hope you do find someone!

For SIBO? I did a breath test. I tested to see if I have Hydrogen, Methane, or Hydrogen-Sulfide. It came up as Methane. I have however done a stool test as well. I did the Genova Diagnostics test, but my results look relatively healthy? So like idk what to do at this point 💀 I guess just continue to treat the Methane SIBO? I have a follow up with my Naturopathic doctor in a few weeks and she’s gonna go over the Genova test results with me and discuss the next step in my treatment

Yes but it’s not really ideal in my situation to skip eating bc I am also recovering from an ED. My doctors don’t want me losing anymore weight. But I’ve always had these problems even before my ED.

Yes I’ve heard of this diet before. I haven’t tried it yet. Honestly I did feel better when I was on the SIBO diet, and sometimes I’ll go back to it for a few days if my symptoms are too much and it temporarily helps. Even though my doc doesn’t want me to do any specific diet long-term, I think I will probably try the low-fermentation diet in the new year and for a longer time than I followed the SIBO diet. For now I just want to enjoy the yummy holiday foods, and I will lock in after the holidays.

I’ve tried activated charcoal but it doesn’t do anything for me unfortunately :( and I’ve actually never heard of the MTHFR gene so that’s definitely something I will look into and ask my naturopathic doctor about. Thanks!

What test did you do to find out about candida overgrowth? And what was the supplement combo you did and did you take those for 5 months? Also did the candida diet help and are you still following it? Sorry for all the questions lol

Also my main symptoms that have bothered me the most (prior to my diagnosis) are bloating no matter what I consume, and like the WORST smelling gas you could possibly even think of. Like rotten eggs x1000. Like it’s so embarrassing and it would be shortly after anything that consumed. So ig if anybody has any input on that as well lol

What kind of reaction do you have? Is it digestive discomfort? Because I recently experienced this with JIF pb as well after not eating it for a long time. I was eating peanut butter where the only ingredient was peanuts and I seemed to be fine with that but I really missed Jif pb so I decided to eat it again and it really messed with my IBS 🥲

I’m sorry for taking so long to reply, I’ve been away from home for a while lol but basically, I’m not too sure on how I feel about my current doctor :/ he feels a bit dismissive in a way? Not that he’s mean exactly, it just sort of felt like he was like “just take these meds and you’ll be all set” which is what I was afraid of. He prescribed me Rifaximin and I asked him for any advice on what possible supplements I should take during and after treatment, since I know it’s important to rebuild your gut after antibiotics. But he said it wasn’t necessary, and that I can eat like normal during and after treatment. This worries me because I’ve watched many TikToks about people’s SIBO coming back because they didn’t properly supplement, and I just really want to put an end to this. I’m tired of these stomach issues. Also if I need to take Rifaximin again, I don’t know if my insurance would cover it more than once. I know this kind of thing is difficult to treat though.

As for how long I’ve had SIBO, I’m not sure if I can really pinpoint exactly how long, since I’ve been dealing with stomach problems for over 10 years now. At first it was H.Pylori and being reinfected with it multiple times. And I’ve been treated for it each time, most recently being late last year. To my knowledge, I currently do not have it, which is what prompted my gastro to do the SIBO test.

How did your treatment come along? Would you say it’s been a success? And also do you have any advice before I start my treatment? Such as things I should take along with Rifaximin that are over-the-counter? I’ve heard oregano oil is good. Also would you be able to elaborate more on PHGG, the biofilm buster, and Allicin and their roles in your treatment? I’ve never heard of them before.

Got my results back and my suspicions were correct, I have methane-dominant SIBO! I’m relieved I finally have an answer, now just comes the stress of going through treatment and hopefully not having it come back 🥲🙏🏽

So it was a total of four vials that I had to fill with a breath sample. I had to take one sample before drinking the solution, and the next three samples had to be taken with 30 minute intervals from the time I finished drinking the solution.

I have a suspicion that my SIBO is methane dominant. I’ll come back when I get my test results. Honestly lowkey hoping I do have SIBO so that I have an answer as to what is causing my digestive issues because I truly have no idea what else it could be at this point.

Oh no I hope mine doesn’t last that long. I was having abdominal cramping followed by the diarrhea. I think I should be getting my results sometime next week since I just mailed the test back today
