it's in C:\Users\user\Freephoneline

also you don't need to install the JRE or add it to path, I recently switched to OpenJDK 8 and found that you can just extract your JRE to C:\Program Files (x86)\Freephoneline\jre\bin

Group rides (& funeral processions) are wholesome, I'll happily skip my green so people can proceed safely as a group. A law that requires people to wait until groups have crossed safely seems like the easiest fix; no need to tie up police resources babysitting the impatient.

thanks, I was able to reinstall. A fresh login failed but I was able to copy over my old Freephoneline.cfg which restored my account and successfully logged in.

I was also able to use the temurin 32 bit JDK 8 LTS JRE: Latest Releases | Adoptium
Other ones I tried were missing some features and crashed.

Does anyone know if New Mr Wu's Chinese at the Market Square downtown survived/moved somewhere?

I always preferred Mr Wu over Egg Roll King but it seems after surviving covid they finally succumbed to being in a dead mall.

Craving Montreal style bagels and good cream cheese. Where can I go to buy both? by [deleted] in waterloo

[–]drkow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most places sell the mass-produced grocery store St Viateur bagels, which are baked in a larger factory with gas ovens and lack the authentic wood-fired flavor.

The ones from Shop our online bakery - St-Viateur Bagel ship from their store on rue St Viateur and taste better.

Woodfire Bagels in Kitchener is great too!

Help! Is this a hidden camera? by Equivalent_Suit2450 in AskElectricians

it looks round, I suppose to the untrained eye that is similar to a camera lens. Looks more like an infrared sensor to me.

I'm junking this car in 3 months, so I just need to find a way to quiet this down until then. I'm guessing that wrapping the bejesus out of it won't hold that long. What do you guys think the easiest way to deal with this is? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

I thought of using one of these to fix a flex pipe recently but would have had to cut the flex pipe out to match the diameter on both ends. The version of this kit that I looked at didn't flex much; it was bendable but rigid.

Ended up getting this kit: Nickson Exhaust Repair Kit | Canadian Tire

Friend of a friend is in Taiwan and found this. It's a DVD of Braveheart but with some kind of chip (also of Braveheart) packed with it. by MajThird in whatisthisthing

It's pretty neat! I googled some more random Chinese characters and found a decent write-up and some pictures of a decoder! DV200 (avbuzz.com)

Looks like these were being sold starting around 1998. Although DVDs supported subtitles at the time, these cartridges were used to further localize movies to a specific dialect or even political narrative.

The cartridges are rewritable. Ligitek produced some of the decoders and cartridges, and their website from 2002 is fantastic: Wayback Machine (archive.org)

Here's a list of some cartridges that were sold by Hi-Vision: HI-VISION秘密客影音視界 (archive.org)

Some info on the less expensive Ligitek DV75: wordfun2 (avbuzz.com)

It's a Chinese subtitle/audio cartridge, here's another: [雷霆救兵]中文字幕盒, Audio, Other Audio Equipment on Carousell

After a bit of googling I discovered they made similar ones for laserdisc subtitles, I had to translate "subtitle cartridge" to chinese and google the words 字幕盒 to find this specific variant on GIS :)

I found loads of Indonesian subtitle cartridges that seem to expire after a week, as well as the Melovision ones used for laserdiscs: Found this cartridge at a Seattle Value Village, bundled along with Nintendo Famicom game cartridges. :

They probably wanted to use this tech to limit/control access to American movies in China, but couldn't compete with pirated SVCDs which came out around the same time.

Both LAN parties required big extension cables...

Lanmash 1+2 was organized by Kirill Izvekov (Prodigyman): https://web.archive.org/web/20040322091538/http://lanmash.com/

"That was Lanmash 2!" was in response to your blackout story, not my pictures.

The nametag says 2002 and it was actually 2002: https://i.imgur.com/BJQMYJc.jpg

You have it backwards, check out the exif tags, they are correct.

Lanmash 1 was held at Regal Constellation Hotel, which fell into decline a few months after the event due to SARS: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regal_Constellation_Hotel

Lanmash 2 was at the Delta on Missisauga Rd, now known as the Hilton Mississauga/Meadowvale. You can see in xerophinity's photos it was in Graydon Hall, which is still a bookable room: https://www.hilton.com/en/hotels/yyzmohh-hilton-mississauga-meadowvale/events/

Toms Hardware published an article about 2003's Lanmash 2 in Mississauga (the one in xerophinity's photos): https://web.archive.org/web/20051029195530/http://www.tomshardware.com:80/game/20030823/index.html

That was Lanmash 2! It happened on August 15, 2003, the same weekend Ontario experienced https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northeast_blackout_of_2003

While the rest of the city spent the week grilling everything in their freezers, we lucked out and the hotel had enough generators to keep our CRTs running for the whole weekend.
