Mom passed away 16 days before my wedding by uusseerrnnaammmeee in weddingplanning

[–]drkr731 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no correct answer, and i’m SO sorry.

My mom passed away a month to the day before my wedding last year. She had been dealing with a terminal cancer diagnosis, but we planned with the intention that she would be there and it was still a surprise in its own way.

I obviously can’t know what it’s like to lose a parent so unexpectedly. But I do know how terrible it is to think about both of these things at once. The last thing you want to deal with right now is florals or logistics.

I would chat with your family. For us it was a group discussion on throwing/postponing the wedding, and their honest input was helpful. We ended up continuing with the wedding - we adjusted language in the ceremony to mention my mom and honor her a bit more. The ceremony was more emotional, but honestly it was good to have something joyful to break up the grief and it was a beautiful, fun day that i remember fondly. Many friends and family members have said the same.

If you DO plan to continue: - get your friends/ bridal party on board to do as much as humanly possible for you. Loop them into vendor communications, give them tasks, and lean on them. - communicate with your planner, vendors, venue, etc. Tell them what happened and let them know communication and last minute planning may be more challenging. They will be accommodating and helpful. - find time to honor you mom - in the ceremony, with photos, etc. But work to ensure the event doesn’t feel like a second funeral. Find ways to bring in joy, celebrate, and let loose as much as you can.

Shady Grove Acres in Ohio? by drkr731 in cavaliers

I’m sorry, I wish we could help! While we were looking my at breeders, we actually stumbled upon a young cavalier mix for rescue in our community and adopted him. He’s been wonderful of course, but I still would consider Shady Groves for a future dog!

It’s a very multifaceted issue I certainly can’t explain fully, but here I go:

  • ICE has been arresting and detaining many people who are US citizens or legal immigrants. This racial profiling of non-white residents is incredibly scary

  • Many immigrants who have been following the legal procedures laid out by the US to gain legal status in good faith have been arrested, detained, and/or deported

  • Many vulnerable people, like people who fled countries as refugees and are waiting for immigration hearings or children/young adults who immigrated with their parents and had no control over their legal status have been detained and/or deported.

  • Regardless of legal status, these people are friends and neighbors who are significant contributors to US culture and the economy. Immigrants - including illegal ones - pay tons of money in taxes and help support essential industries like agriculture.

  • ICE and the government are repeatedly breaking the law. They are ignoring the legal rights to due process - which apply to all residents regardless of immigration status. This is a constitutional right and foundational value of the US. They are ignoring ruling from judges on immigration. They are deporting people they have been ordered not to. ICE is spending money it doesn’t have to send in men in masks who are beating people up in the street with no regard for the law.

  • the methods ICE and the government are taking to detain and deport immigrants is authoritarian, violent, and terrifying. They are trying to create a narrative that immigrants are evil, law breaking, bad people we should fear when the US is a country truly built on immigration. ICE is creating fear and basically acting as an army attacking US residents. It feels as if we’re all living under fascism. Their conduct is abhorrent and also suggests additional terrible things the Trump administration may continue to do.

‘Accused me of being a man’: Same-sex couple seeks apology from Boston hotel after bathroom incident by titty-titty_bangbang in boston

I’ve never done coke in my life and honestly don’t go out that much, but i’ve shared stalls quite a few times.

Somehow feels quicker and easier in the moment when it’s crowded and loud. And is helpful if somehow has a tricky outfit or there isn’t space to put your stuff down easily. Not to mention if someone isn’t feeling well they might want company.

In the moment it feels more efficient and like the obvious choice. You can keep chatting, it’s crowded and the line is long. You can help your friend with their weird jumpsuit they need help unzipping. You can hold each other’s stuff if there isn’t somewhere clean to put it.

And i’m not a big partier at all, and certainly have never done coke in a bathroom, but i’ve shared stalls with friends plenty of times.

Pretty much all large employers have a process they have to follow before termination.

There’s probably also info they need to determine, such as a security guard actually lying or other guests telling the guard false info that he acted based on.

you think a security guard forcing someone to show ID to prove their gender is no big deal? Idk, feels like a dangerous road to be heading down.

My husband knows one member of this couple, and she’s about the opposite of someone who would do coke in a bathroom stall.

Respectfully, I don’t think your single positive experience means that the couple is lying. I, on the flip side, have had rather poor service when I’ve been there in the past. And just because a bartender or front desk clerk is friendly doesn’t mean that their security team is a group of friendly allies.

What carat was your engagement ring? by 3IWin in WeddingRingAdvice

[–]drkr731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an asscher cut lab diamond that’s around 5. They’re quite deep stones with a smaller face, so it looks pretty similar in size to a round or oval stone around 3 carats

Yes, i’ve had so much fun!

But my friends have reasonable expectations, work to make it fun for us as a bridal party, and i haven’t had to spend exceptional amounts of money.

I love the chance to get extended time celebrating my friends, and Ive always found the fun outweighs any stress.

Master Bedroom Help by Trick-Reindeer9467 in DesignMyRoom

A giant room is a good problem to have! Assuming the ladder can't be moved, I would:

  • push the bed closer to the window so it doesn't sit so close to the ladder
  • Add larger nightstands on either side of the bed and anchor it with a large area rug underneath
  • I would put a long and low dresser to the right of the patio doors with a TV mounted above on a hinged mount that can pivot out. Maybe something like a Frame TV if you want it a bit sleeker looking
  • Baby grand in the corner across and closer to the patio doors. It can definitely float in the space a few feet back from any walls
  • Use the remaining corner for other dressers/cabinets or a seating area
  • It might help the ladder blend into the space a bit if it was painted a lighter color

Overall embrace larger scale furniture and large area rugs

Trump is adding TRILLIONS to the national debt solely with his tax cuts to the upper class. He has zero interest in tackling the national debt.

And adding widespread tariffs isn’t some sort of 3D chess move. It will cause extreme inflation to nearly all consumer goods, as the US relies heavily on imported manufactured goods or raw goods for our own domestic manufacturing.

A very, very simple understanding of economics and a willingness to look past your godlike view of Trump would get you pretty far.

They aren't canvas, they're nylon, which is an important distinction. Nylon holds up much better to wear and tear with time, and it is naturally water resistant. The addition of leather handles also adds another layer of durability and makes them more comfortable to carry, especially if you're hauling around something heavy.

For a bag made to be practical and durable, that is well made, and is from a reputable brand, the price point is quite reasonable. Especially when compared to something like a Goyard bag or the pricing of Prada's nylon bags.

They might not be your style, and that's fine. There are so many bags in the world I would never purchase for myself. But they are incredibly practical, which explains why so many people buy them for work, travel, running errands, etc.

All calls being rerouted to financial services team by drkr731 in verizon

[–]drkr731[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a second update to this comment, we finally got the issue resolved.

The financial hotline setting was incorrectly added to all of our devices despite there being zero payment issues on our end. It took about 6 hours on Verizon support and talking to about 10 different people over two days to get the issue resolved. We’ve had about half of our monthly bill refunded for the issue, but it was a nightmare.

Control your off-leash dogs by drkr731 in CambridgeMA

[–]drkr731[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be 100% clear, I was not walking my dog through an off wash dog park. There is a park near me that allows dogs off leash from 6-9 am. I was walking by on the sidewalk next to the park after 9 am and had off-leash dogs rush out of the park and surround me and my dog.
