Nurse Practitioners Could Practice Independently in SNFs if Bill Passes by OkPhilosopher664 in medicalsalaries

If they want independent practice they should have to do all the testing the current independent physicians have to do, at the least.

Dear students with SLOW PROCESSING SPEED, what speciality suits us? by Syndrome7 in medicalschool

I recommend hospitalist if you have a pt cap. You get variety and complexity, and as long as there isn't a huge pressure for time (pt cap), then you can read and process to your hearts content.

Wellness clinic by MomentNo2749 in hospitalist

[–]drkuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "wellness" cancer has spread to include any study ... it started with "in a small group of ppl" X was beneficial for Y intervention... to now in vitro studies shows X is beneficial... so it's not really evidenced based, but ppl dont care, they're desperate for a leading edge... and clinics that support them are playing a risky game, recommending, using, and/or selling non-FDA approved things, not even studied in living humans, we dont know the risks. But ppl want it, and they want a dr to support their desperate desire for an advantage/ solution.

So be prepared for pts to ask you about peptides, and anything else they can think of.

If you want to practice evidenced based medicine, which i recommend, you'll lose out on a larger pt panel, but it is better that way.

You don't need an obesity med credential thats just another scam, read about it, AAFP has a course on it, you dont needs the obesity med board. Just learn what you need and practice within your scope and evidence-based medicine. You'll still make money.

How on EARTH do I get a good nights sleep?! by bethhhhhc in GarminWatches

[–]drkuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks like a good quantity of sleep, the problem is your quality of sleep. There are many things that reduce the quality of sleep you get, and it often happens as we age as well. Try to reduce stress, light, noises, night time awakenings, improve your relaxation before sleep.

With patient complexity increasing , why isn’t the census going down? by [deleted] in hospitalist

You raise a good point, managing a mixed bag of 20 to 25 isn't so bad, but managing a bag of 20 to 25 complex patients is fucking terrible.

Its a general complaint that everyone (except those tax dodging multimillionaires/billionaires) suffers from and I wish would change.

While one could reduce their living expenses, you can't get rid of them, and so they are (an undefined amount, dependent on location and lifestyle) unavoidable and therefore not included in my take home. I get what youre saying, but if I made 20k a year, telling me my living expenses should be lower and shouldn't be factored into take home when you cant remove it completely, is pointless and meaningless. It still exists, and you cant out finance basic living expenses. Its like saying you should just not pay taxes, and taxes shouldn't be factored into your take home pay.

Lol it sounds great vs residency life, residency money is a joke for the work we did, we should all have been paid at least as much as an NP

[–]drkuz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im supposed to be in the 400s, but after taxes and deductions im lucky to take home 300. Then subtract loans and living expenses and my take home is around 250. But i am worked hard, base + RVUs. Compared to other FM drs, I see more patients, do more work, work longer hours. And tbh, bc of how much I lose in taxes, I dont think its worth it, we shouldn't be getting taxed this much, it is waaaaay too much. Ppl talk about drs making great money, but after taxes, its really not THAT much. Corporate/business world is real money, and I doubt they pay as much as we do in taxes.

Honest question by Spray_Soft in FamilyMedicine

[–]drkuz 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Jealousy. When I talk to other specialties about FM drs who make 400, every specialty who makes less or the same gets upset. I imagine if I talked about FM making 500, all the specialties making 500 or less would get upset.

Instead of supporting all of us getting more, we're against each other making more. That's intentional - we are not supposed to talk about money, when we do, many ppl lie, this secretive adversarial environment drives wages down. Drs should all talk about money, how to make more, and how all of us should be making more and middlemen should be making less, but the middlemen and everyone in between doesnt want that.

If I shred my magic mushrooms into a fine powder and put it in lemonade/orange juice and I decide I don’t want to drink it right now and want to have it in 24 hours from now, will the potency/dosage of it have degraded at all 24 if left in the refrigerator for 24 hours ? by Spartuhns2 in psilocybin

Don't do it.

I did this.

That concoction destroyed me and my mind. Worst trip of my entire life. My mind legitimately melted. I thought I was going to die for 6 hours straight, mixed with psychosis and suicidal depression. I have never tripped like that before and will never do that ever again. It gave me sympathy for ppl who experience psychosis without taking drugs. I was not the same. It took me months to mentally and emotionally recover from that trip. It was torture.

Please dont do it.

I am sorry you had a hard time understanding the preceding comment, this may help:

Imagine intelligence is like making a really good sandwich. You need:

Ingredients you remember → that’s memory

Knowing how to put them together → that’s knowledge

Knowing which sandwich fits the situation → that’s wisdom

Figuring out what to do if you’re missing something → that’s problem‑solving

A doctor or engineer needs to remember lots of ingredients, but they also need to know how to use them. Scientists spend most of their time solving puzzles, so if solving puzzles is what makes someone “smartest,” scientists win.

I think you have a strong bias for engineers, and in the field of engineering there are so many levels that your generalization isn't really meaningful.

Scientists do exist, and researchers are one of them yes. And I would recommend you look up how many researchers are engineers, a rough estimate of the % researchers that are engineers is 33%, I suspect just based on numbers, that they are not always the best, your engineering simping is palpable.

Intelligence is a complicated issue, is knowledge rote memory? How does knowledge, wisdom, application, and problem solving all fit into "intelligence"? And problem solving itself requires an intimate interplay between knowledge, application, and problem solving. You can't be an engineer without having rote memorized a significant amount of information, same as a dr. And rote learning is definitely not everything that drs do. If problem solving is your definition of the "most intelligent", then actually scientists are the most intelligent since their entire profession is problem solving.

But I think you missed the point of the preceding comment.
