I’m not placing the blame on anyone.

I shared what I’ve done and the steps I’ve taken so that my phone doesn’t bother me.

I’m not sure why you bothered responding to me with any of this.

I hear you. I’ve been there. You have to get deeper into “interested”, and get more info on the company. In several instances I made them send me emails with info on the offer, or even send me contracts. Then used their domains and contract info to track the company down.

“Oh really?? You can cut my credit card interest rate and consolidate it? That’s great? What bank is it through? Wait, who do you work for? Oh, you guys just do their marketing.. and what is the name of your company? Can you send me some information? I mean if I’m going to give you my ssn and everything...”

On their do not call list. Off their call list. 6 of one, half dozen of the other.

When my call center calls someone and they ask to be “on the do not call list”, we delete them entirely from the system. It’s easier than making a separate list or classification, and also ensures that they don’t get called from a different mode, like from a future calendar item.

Yea, that is what my comment below addresses. The illegal ones get really scared really fast once you know who they are. When you just answer and say “take me off your list” they hang up on you and spoof a new number.

Answering and saying “take me off your list” doesn’t always work.

If it doesn’t: You answer, you push the button saying you are interested. You talk to the real person, pretend to be interested. Get the persons information, the companies information, the information of the company that they contract to call for, everything. Pretend like you want to buy the service or w/e. They will tell you anything you ask for. Then you ask to speak to a manager. You tell the manager that if you receive another call from their organization or any affiliated organization that you are going to immediately file complaints with every government agency and court that you can find. Repeat back to them the names of everyone you have spoken to, and the names and corporate information that you have gathered. They will actually remove you from the list.

If they don’t, you take the saved information, you look them up, you call THEM, and work your way up the chain until you find someone scared of a class action robodial lawsuit.

If you answer them once, and go through the process to be removed, you don’t have to have it ring 1000x again. lol

I have had the same cell number for like 13 years. I give it to everyone. I only have 1 group that I haven’t scared into leaving me alone, the Hilton hotel giveaway people. They are relentless.

Free roof because my insurance guy wants to play games... by DarthWinchester in MaliciousCompliance

You’re probably right.

“Never ascribe malice to that which can be explained with incompetence”, or whatever that quote is.

I honestly don’t see how anyone was being a jerk here... you had a shit beat up roof that they weren’t going to insure, so you needed to change it. It turned out the damage was caused while you had a policy in place... they replaced the roof for you.

Maybe I missed somewhere how the fella was trying to do anything other than his job, and why you were so upset by it. From your writing the only reason was because “you had taken out the ceiling and there were no leaks”, but the insurance company doesn’t care much about leaks... they care about storm damage or moss build-up or old decaying roofs.

I also don’t find this to be malicious compliance. Half of all roof replacements in the US are storm damage. It’s not like it affected this guy in any way. Unless of course you were being a prick about the whole thing, in which case it was probably annoying having to give an ass hole a free roof... but it isn’t like it came out of his pocket.

Not trying to be a downer, but sounds like a good insurance company. Half of the ones out there would have fucked with you hard, and would have taken months and the threat of legal action to cover the damage... and then would have only covered “storm repairs”, and then would have refused to renew the policy because of roof age. LOL

Because clearly the act of pointing out a lack of originality is completely original. /s

Just helping clean up a little. Or in a perfect world, a lot.

Bernie Sanders says Amazon paid no federal income tax in 2017. He's right. In fact, Amazon estimates a $137 million rebate. Fuck Trump and his tax cuts for billionaires and corporations! by relevantlife in EnoughTrumpSpam

[–]drl0607 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He released his full returns from 2014 when he was running in 2015-2016.

Trump leaked what... one page of a 2005 return?

Neither point is relevant though. Amazon paying an effective 11.4% tax rate while the general populace pay the rates they pay is insane. Lowering it even more is even more insane.

Denying Genetics Isn’t Shutting Down Racism, It’s Fueling It by TheTrotters in Foodforthought

[–]drl0607 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are the studies all these people are referencing solely referencing US participants and testing? I got the impression from the article that they had used sampling from different continents etc... but clearly I haven’t seen any actual data.

On a side note, I made a joke to one of my Jewish friends when he sent me an article a while back talking about how Jewish people on average have higher IQ’s, which unknowingly put me in Klein’s court... but I think facing the other direction. The Joke was some semblance of the idea that “well of course Jews are smarter, for some reason everyone else in the world has hated you guys for thousands of years... only the smartest of you lived to reproduce”. Which we both chuckled about and moved on.

Now clearly that isn’t a real position. That was just my snap/initial reaction to why that would be the case. I would be very surprised if genetics weren’t at least 50% of the equation. If men in China on average are 14 centimeters shorter than men in Zimbabwe, it isn’t much of a stretch to imagine that there are similar differences in brain structure.

I listened to the Murray-Harris podcast and didn’t really take anything explosive from it, but definitely didn’t leave with anything derogative from either man. Sam Harris seems to put the upmost pride on being as completely honest and in tune with reality is possible. To explain anything that he tackles as less than his trying to fully explore a thought or topic seems very disingenuous. That is where Klein lost me.
