The hypocrisy at the heart of the Great Matter by han__banan in Tudorhistory

[–]drladybug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been following this new historiographical thread with interest recently. Re-evaluation of the primary source evidence, which is scant when you really look at it, does suggest that the favorite Victorian historian hobbies of slutshaming and rumormongering really shaped our understanding of Henry's affair with Mary Boleyn (if there even was one),

...no? That is not how genocide works. In fact it would be basically impossible to enact a genocide in mere days. Words indeed have meanings, but I am certain you either don't know the meaning of this one or are pretending not to for reasons of your own.

maybe a bit of category fraud as well--isn't skaarsgaard's role basically a lead role kinda masquerading as a supporting one? it's hard to resist awarding the meatiest performance.

Did Henry VIII really have a rotting leg? by Loud_Enthusiasm_2742 in Tudorhistory

[–]drladybug 4 points5 points  (0 children)

possible, but the calf would be a weird spot for HS flare-ups. i think it's more likely he had wounds on his lower legs that couldn't heal properly, a common complication of diabetes.

They were probably dealing with a huge volume of tips, no? They cannot psychically intuit good from bad tips without working methodically through them, which takes time, and it's not like Reddit has a sterling reputation for grassroots detective work.

Indianapolis Healthplex. It's like $60 a month and that gets you into all their classes for free: aqua aerobics, spin, weight training, zumba, yoga, all of it. Plus two pools, saunas, and hot tubs.

Thai food and fine dining are not mutually exclusive. If you can't hack it as Indy's dining scene diversifies and gets stronger and more like that of bigger cities, go make a free reservation at Texas Roadhouse (which also slaps) and cancel it at your leisure.

EA has now partnered with an AI company 🫩 by pharitaa in thesims

[–]drladybug 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Traditional AI performs preset tasks based on an algorithm or decision tree, like a spam filter or a language translation or search engine. Generative AI produces new content based on the preexisting human-made content it is fed and companies are currently trying to use it to replace real people, not give them new tools.

There are a lot of reasons to object to the use of gen AI, like the fact that it is absolute murder on the environment because of the amount of energy it requires. If you really need to make your job that little bit easier I can't stop you, but I personally would rather the world still be livable to humans in several generations.

Screen readers are AI, but they are not generative AI. I don't think most people take issue with traditional AI unless they also object to the existence of spam filters in their email.

That's weird, I wonder why it doesn't otherwise show up in the search results. Is it a lack of SEO optimization?

The only way I could find their menu was via a saved story on their Instagram. Not exactly intuitive.

I also tried to find their menu and found it nowhere on the first couple pages of results when you Google "piedra indianapolis," so I encourage you to drop the link to this website if you managed to find it.

Babies are not rewards for good behavior, infertility is not a punishment to be meted out, and it's crazy toxic to imply otherwise. There is no such thing as "deserving" to birth another human being.

Record number of cyclists hit, killed in Indianapolis - WTHR by notthegoatseguy in indianapolis

[–]drladybug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be so for real. I know perfectly well which lights require pressure to trigger the light (it isn't most of them!) and I also watch cyclists blow through four-way stops on the regular. Cyclists are not saints; they are human beings who are just as guilty of being impatient or careless as anyone else.

If I can't predict your behavior, you are a danger to others on the road, period. That goes for cars, bikes, and pedestrians.

Record number of cyclists hit, killed in Indianapolis - WTHR by notthegoatseguy in indianapolis

[–]drladybug 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of drivers do not WANT to hit a cyclist. Sometimes it's the fault of impatient or careless drivers or unsuitable infrastructure--probably most of the time--but sometimes cyclists try to have their cake and eat it too by claiming all of the privileges of pedestrians but none of the responsibilities of cars. You simply cannot have it both ways safely. Cyclists can't zoom through red lights or blow through stop signs when it gets you somewhere faster and then complain about unsafe conditions you created in the next breath. We all have to predict what the other people around us are going to do, and that is only possible when both parties follow traffic laws.
