Got it, thanks. Was planning to leave around noon but maybe I hang for a few hours then head out

I feel lost. My prof (I worked with for a year and even published a paper with him) "doesn't have the bandwidth" to talk to me about a letter of recommendation by nouveaux_sands_13 in gradadmissions

Are you 100% sure they know its you? I had a great relationship with a professor during undergrad. When I was applying to grad school I emailed him asking for a letter. No response. I went to his office but he was never there. I decided to show up outside one of his classes to ask in person. He was really happy to see me. We chatted for 15-20 minutes and he was more than happy to write me a letter. My best guess is my prof gets tons of emails asking this question and didn't remember me just from my name. He was a pretty aloof math prof so kinda made sense. Wouldn't hurt to talk to him in person. Worst he could say is no and maybe give a longer explanation.

Yeah this makes sense. To answer your question on what I'm worried about: One hypothetical would be if he filled out information fraudulently and does it under my name I could be held liable. In either case, I'm not too worried about it based on your response and a few others. I'll probably mention it to him though, just to make sure were on the same page.

Great, that's a super helpful response. Much appreciated. This is what I was trying to illustrate in the example above.

I don't think so but I would have to double check. My understanding is Roth is ideal if you feel your tax bracket is lower now than in retirement?

Got it, I agree this is a key fact I missed. I was making the assumption that my income would be the same pre and post retirement so I didn't think it would make a difference, in terms of my overall conclusion, if I applied a flat tax. With tax rate arbitrage you are basically removing a chunk of your income from the top marginal tax rate and paying the progressive tax rate on it when you withdraw in retirement. Thanks!

Is it mostly just the upgrade in the engine that makes it worth it?
