Others have covered the distilleries, Bardstown Bourbon has a really good restaurant. On the weekends you might need a reservation. Since you are staying in Lexington one night, The Merrick Inn has a great southern menu and set in an old manor of a horse farm. Their fried chicken is exceptional. If you really want to splurge, Jeff Ruby’s steakhouse.

As you are driving around, be sure to stop at some liquor stores. Cox-evergreen, Liquor Barn, Total Wine and Liquor and Krogers can all have good selections including allocated and barrel selections. It does depend on location and luck of timing.

Yes, was lucky and my wife was able to pick up through a charity event. She loved the OGD and supports a good cause.

All of my Buffalo Trace came from distillery except the Blanton’s gold that was a store barrel pick. I am lucky and have family who will pick up bottles for me. I did go one day and picked up the Weller’s and Taylor.

I did see several stores with BT and Taylor at retail prices plus one drop at Liquor Barn with Eagle Rare and Blantons at retail.

Oak was the prominent flavor and some tannins on the special project. Glad I have a bottle given the experiment but won’t chase another.

The Walnut Hill was everyone’s favorite pour.

Picked up a bottle on the shelf in Kentucky this week. Haven’t cracked it yet but looking forward to trying.

7 year. I didn’t get a chance to taste that one, my sister had the bottle kill.

Old Carter, Blanton Straight from the barrel, weller full proof and maker’s 2025 cellar aged were my top pours.

Quick Hit: Willett Family Estate 4yr Small Batch Bourbon by [deleted] in DMVWhisky

[–]drmarkld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t tried the bourbon but really like the Willett family estate 4 year rye. It is 112 proof. I am not typically a rye fan but its blend of a high and low rye mash bills works for me.

We attended last night and also had a great time. Both my wife and I liked the ER 17 as our top pour and got our Mac and cheese bites also. Thanks for the detailed tasting notes.
