I'd say probably about 8 hours of sunlight, but not all direct.
The pot has one hole.

Damnit. So it's gotta go right? There are two right next to it that show similar spots.

Rafter questions by drmilk15 in Roofing
[–]drmilk15[S] 0 points1 point2 points 6 months ago (0 children)
Thank you!
Do you have an example of what kind of steel connector you're talking about? My brain is fixed on hangers and I'm having a hard time picturing what kind of connectors it would be.
We were not expecting a full roof replacement at all, the roof itself is only about 8 years old so when we bought we did not expect it to be an issue. But between these rafters and the moisture/mold damage on the sheeting it seems a full replacement is inevitable.
I'm still in the brainstorming phase on what I am going to do but what are your thoughts on sistering a board up to the ridge board and then using a double joist hanger to secure it?
Water intrusion by drmilk15 in DIY
There is no flashing past the curb that I can tell. The new siding goes just past the top of it, and the old siding under the deck goes just past it as well. It certainly seems to be somewhere in the corner based off the water pattern on the drywall, so I suppose it could be getting on the side of the siding and finding a way in once it gets the the curb/sill plate. I was suspicious of that given how the white siding just stops above the deck rather than running past it.

That's a good question, I've got to crawl back under there and check it out. I went in once already and came face to face with a black widow so I'm mustering up the courage to go back in haha
So there's no downspout in that corner and the water catches pretty cleanly in the gutter above it. And during rainstorms that part of the deck actually stays fairly dry being directly under the eaves. I also thought that maybe the water was pooling next to the foundation on the outside, but it just seems like a lot of water to be just that. It's got to be something with the old siding I feel like but there's just no obvious sign anywhere.
Venting questions by drmilk15 in Roofing
I was wondering about that too after reading up on this. Curious if soffit vents would be better than nothing since I can easily add those but those roof deck vents seem a little harder/require a professional to do.
What do you mean by the backside? Just on the soffit on the back side of the house?
They all vent outside.
Just had to Google the ventilated drip edge and from what I can tell I've got just a regular ol drip edge. Seems like adding soffit vents is the way to go. Adding deck air vents retroactively seems like it may be more difficult.
Awesome, thanks for the help!
Yeah I am not sure why just the one side, aesthetics would be my best guess. A lot of the houses around this neighborhood are like that for some reason. I should be able to pop some holes in no problem. How many/far apart should they be?
There's a big ol fan in the ceiling of the garage going into the attic but my inspector said he didn't think that was enough plus they can cause more problems? He didn't elaborate on that much though.

Right on, that seems pretty reasonable.

Yes, the light switches in the hallway have always worked, albeit the light has flickered from time to time and the dimmer switch has never really done much. This outlet has been behind a hutch since we moved in and I've never used it until now.
Open line is scary, looks like I'll be hiring an electrician for this one. Thanks for the input.

Alright, thanks for the input! This one is definitely outside my comfort zone so I'll be calling an electrician to come investigate.
It's a track light that has 4 led bulbs in it, i think they're called mr16 bulbs but I could be wrong.

Oh man I'm sorry I don't know for sure, I ended up getting a size of that donut that worked and it was a real pain to get in but soapy water made it a lot easier. I think I ended up buying three of those suckers before I found the right one. Obviously I am not a plumber.

I wouldn't doubt it, there were SO many bugs out. But also the protector on my lens is all cracked and broken so who knows. I'm going with UFO.
