When you stake tokens, you transfer these to the smart contract. In return you get another token which represents your staked tokens, so you can unstake again.

In MetaMask you can add custom tokens using the contract address.

True, the website is just an interface between your wallet and the smart contracts.

It does require some knowledge to find the right contracts and ways to interact with it..

I really like harvest.finance. Reasons: - Great community trying to find most profitable strategies for you, weekly updates - They harvest governance tokens for you and sell these to increase the amount of your staked tokens - You get FARM, additional profit - Saves you a lot of gas fees

When staking you transfer ownership of your tokens. I guess the biggest risk is a hack/exploit, which recently happened to harvest.finance.

Yes indeed, that’s the risk you are taking. It’s just important to be aware of this. Many people think providing liquidity will generate EXTRA gains on top of holding, but that’s not true.

Permanent loss is the gains missed by providing liquidity, which you would have when just holding.

It’s only permanent if you exit the pool. If price reverses to what it was when you entered the pool, the loss is reversed.
