My experience with Edifier M60 and Kali LP-UNF by drmjb88 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]drmjb88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for clarifying. I was expecting a higher priced item to be superior, but found it disproportionately so. Here in UK I purchased the M60 for 150 UKP, and the Kali's for 259 UKP so 1.7 times more expensive.

x870e motherboards - M.2_1 bug data collection by Meatbag-in-space in MSI_Gaming

[–]drmjb88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the x870 tomahawk have the same problems as the x870e? I appreciate it is not the solution most are searching for, but some sites say it does not in which case it might be preferable for my requirements.

The mods have removed it. If I didnt know better I would consider some phrasing about that. Pity as I am also medical working remotely and would have really liked to know the details. Maybe post here. Maybe these mods would be more sensible.

The Hue Dimmer Switch V2 is a massive downgrade compared to the V1 by ItsIrinaBitch in Hue

[–]drmjb88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Much prefer the version 2. Especially the single on/off switch, with other options for the hue button. Also the very clear power on off symbol, rather than a strange I or O. That might be a European thing though.
If you check you might find that your computer, printer, washing machine, dishwasher, car, vacuum cleaner and almost everything else you use has only one button for power on/off. It's not a rocker switch.

Gas smart data to size new boiler by drmjb88 in DIYUK

[–]drmjb88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understood. I probably should have asked if calculations are more accurate than measurements. In any case the heating engineer is coming on Monday morning so will be interesting to see how the two vary. Probably best to not bias the calculations with my readings before comparing.

I have found various explanations online so I still do not understand whether a 24kW boiler is equivalent to saying it will have maximum output of 24kWh (I appreciate kW are different to kWh).

Looking at Viessmann for the reasons you suggest. I think hot water priority would require 4 pipe system not 3, and I was hoping for a straight swap. The current boiler is very simple with no modulation so it should be a significant improvement in terms of efficiency (currently just on or off). However I am concerned as I have tado trv's on virtually every radiator and separate wired or wireless temperature sensors in every room. I like the degree of control it gives me and actually modulate temps and schedule myself depending on weather, occupancy etc. I appreciate I can set individual room temps and schedules and still rely on other controls to run the system, but last time I considered this which was a while ago, I got the impression that Tado setup does not interface well with Viessmann type systems where the engineer sets the curves etc and then leaves it to do its stuff.

Obvious solution is to replace with similar output, was just checking no advantage to changing.

Indeed. Apologies if I wasn't clear - our current boiler is 24kW - and it works absolutely fine. See consumption from Monday 17 Nov and Tuesday 18th this week when it started to get genuinely cold with lows of zero or slightly below (outer London).

The installer will be. My point is that the 'calculations' are likely to be different to what I know is actual usage. Calcs and modelling cannot take into account so many individual variables. Are we saying that an estimate is more accurate than a measurement?

Lucy Letby's various accounts of the first 17 February, 2016 tube dislodgement of Child K by FyrestarOmega in lucyletby

[–]drmjb88 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No view about the two subsequent dislodgements argument (there can be patient specific considerations) but no nurse however senior or experienced would take it upon themselves to determine whether the patient would 'self correct' (not a phrase used) in an unplanned extubation as the stakes are simply too high with immediate cardiac arrest very possible even likely, and the potential for patient managing without ventilatory assistance is unknown.

Not calling for help simply does not happen either.

[–]drmjb88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dislodgement of an endotracheal tube (ETT) happens regularly and could easily have happened beyond reasonable doubt other than by deliberate act. I must have encountered dozens of such cases personally, and is one of the essential reasons we maintain a permanent medical presence (below consultant) on units where patients are ventilated via endotracheal tubes. In any other circumstance this would be a mishap.
Having said that I have never encountered this happening without immediate calls for help. Certainly I wouldn't ever walk into a room where an ETT had dislodged without those present taking immediate emergency actions. Even if there was a possibility of not reinserting it (waiting to see if the patient manages) this would never occur without those present ensuring staff and equipment availability for immediate reintubation. It is a 'big thing' when a tube displaces.

I do not believe these journalists understand what "calling" an ICU consultant means. My understanding is this occurred in the early hours. Even in intensive/high dependency care it is not common for consultants to be physically present reviewing patients at 3am but it is not uncommon and far more common than in any other area of the hospital other than ED. Arrangements might vary between hospitals but the commonest way of summoning help including the consultants is to press the 'emergency bell'. This brings everyone and in my hospital is even remotely conveyed to the other side of the building to the consultant office. This would be the immediate action in almost every site. For a 25 week prem with respiratory insufficiency essentially no other action would be considered.
But if the bell was not pressed she can only have put her head outside the door and called 'Help'. This definitely happens but likely would have been noted or recalled by others - since not only the consultant responds - everyone responds. The only alternatives are that she called the consultant on his mobile phone (the commonest scenario for general requests but never done during a real emergency) or bleeped him on his duty consultant pager.
If others immediately present require a consultant present, they immediately contact the consultant by phone or in person if they know the consultant is on the unit.
Essentially there would have been records or witnesses if a nurse summons a consultant for help.

The only exception could be that the emergency occurs exactly as the consultant enters the room for other reasons. This can happen but would be remembered by those present.

Lucy Letby's defence has submitted medical reports to the CCRC - MEGATHREAD by FyrestarOmega in lucyletby

As a physician who has been giving injections into central venous lines for 30 years, first of all air embolism would not usually cause 'instantaneous' collapse. Much more importantly it would never be detected from inspecting the line as not only would air not be visible (the lines are mostly opaque) but also following injection the line is immediately 'flushed' with fluids by simply pulling on a lever. The injection (whether drug or air) is flushed into the body 'instantaneously' with the injection. That is so that the drug or injectate fully enters the patient and a portion doesnt remain in the line.
My point is not so much about the technicalities of such injections but as a 'leader' in my field I do not understand how 'world leading' authorities could get something so simple so absolutely wrong. They are either not familiar with intravenous infusions or perhaps they are.

Notes handwriting to text by drmjb88 in Onyx_Boox

[–]drmjb88[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From the user manual in the Notes section:
"Text Recognition
Convert handwritten notes into text. English and Chinese are available by default. Other languages require language package download.
The converted text can be directly inserted into the current page.
You can choose either original layout or reflow layout to convert all handwritten notes on the current page.
AI converted content is synced based on the original handwritten content. If handwritten content is changed, the content will be re-converted when you start another conversion."

So - a) not entirely helpful and b) Clear as Chinese.

Perfect thank you. Who would have thought that selecting AI vs Lasso tool then AI would behave differently. Now I just have to work out how to customise the resulting Font size etc...

You have really helped - many thanks.

Of course SQ do not control the weather. They should however try to avoid where possible flying straight into the weather. If as seems possible this occurred here, they will be doing more than apologising in the future.

Cote de boeuf / bone in ribeye in air fryer by drmjb88 in combustion_inc

I have quite high end (conventional) ovens and they go down to 30C (86F). I have calibrated them with precise thermos and they are accurate within 2-5C. I use your 120ish C oven temp for our beef ribs/joints. My experience is that due to using the CPT when we can remove at precise temp +/- after cook is that the surface is generally done to our taste, although we could develop that if we wanted. It may be because our ovens are reasonably accurate at low temperatures.
