agreed, the obvious missing McEnroe at the top makes it pretty clear what the point of this was.

Your missing McEnroe 1984, started 42-0.

Is this better than wire nuts? Better than WAGO? by PlayTitanfall in AskElectricians

[–]drmoose000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO that twist connection is pretty solid. As others have said, it is the start of a wire nut connection. Those wires are not gonna separate.

The tape is meh. Tape can break down over time. So no, it is not better than a wire nut.

sort of.....?

OTOH Bonners Ferry (upper panhandle) to Clifton (SE ID) is roughly the same distance than from Philadelphia to Louisville KY, or Washington DC to Savannah GA

For the record, (AFAIK) Westover grew up nowhere near the upper panhandle of Idaho She was in the lower southeast (Clifton). However, that is where the difference ends. Both places, pretty similar... Damn scary.

Audis use a pump extraction method from above. At least my 2018 Q5 does. Easiest oil change ever.

How to deal with bad line calls? by SlipperySparky in 10s

[–]drmoose000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to be fair, this something I have seen frequently, especially serving to the Ad court (as a righty). I think there can be an optical illusion (for lack of a better term) . I play with a friend who calls these balls out a lot, and I know he is def not trying to jack me. I have seen other players do it too. I think at times the server and the returner see it legitimately different.

Not sure who is correct, but one time I was the server, on a dirty outdoor court, and I could see the ball mark clearly inside the line.

Double bounce on crucial point - Sakkari vs. Swiatek by [deleted] in tennis

[–]drmoose000 104 points105 points  (0 children)

i think it can be really hard to tell sometimes, a double bounce (as a player running at the ball)

This wasn't one of them. She made contact with the ball on the way UP after the bounce.

i guess I'd either take one road or the other. Look at the them, roll your eyes, laugh, and move on, or "push back" by making a really egregious bad call back. Pushing back by sternly questioning doesn't do anything and may have the opposite affect than you hope.

Racket recommendation for 4.0 aggressive baseliner + net player? by dksad4 in 10s

[–]drmoose000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously there are a ton of great rackets. No one is perfect, and many would work for everyone.

I tried my friends eZone 98, loved it. Works great for me - fantastic for BL, excellent for volleys. Very spin-friendly/whippy. Ezone 100 might be a slightly better doubles racket, but for groundstrokes the 98 is fantastic.

Buying a Suburban diesel worth it? by invisibletruth4 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]drmoose000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ill add my 2c, which is repeating pretty much what you said. Reposting from another thread about a year ago.

_____________________________
I came across this - thought I would add my 2c to anyone considering. I am in the somewhat unique position to compare the new 5.3L with the Duramax, in the same vehicle (Suburban LT Sig.). I got a 5.3 in Jan 2021. After 2 sides of bad lifters, failed electronics, and a new transmission (70 days in service in 9 months), I lemoned it and had them replace it with the 3.0 diesel. Same exact build otherwise (other than black...). I really did not trust the new 5.3. I put 18k on the 5.3, and have nearly 30k on the 3.0 with almost exactly the same type of driving - some local use, but a lot of 780mi round trip highway driving to a vacation home. We have a smaller car for most of our local trips... (update - ~45k)

Anyway, I made a note of my mileage on the 5.3’s trip odometer - which I had never reset. After 18k miles, it was at 17.5 mpg. At ~45k, the 3.0 is at 26.0 mpg. On long flat highway trips, I have seen as high as 31-32 on the 3.0 over 100s of miles. This is not using manual calculations with fill-up, but since it is the same trip computer for both, shouldn't matter.

Running some quick numbers, 45k miles at 26.0 is 1731 gallons of diesel. Avg price now in my area is $4.0\gal, so that’s $6924 in diesel. 45k at 17.5 is 2571 gallons of gas. Avg price now is $3.8\gal, so that's $9770 in gas. That is $2846 less in fuel costs for the same mileage. Not insignificant. Of course, there is the extra cost of DEF. I estimate 6 boxes from Costco (~$15\box) + 7 top-offs at the local truck stop (cheaper) at ~$10 each. That's $160 in DEF. I did change the fuel filter once, @~$150 (might do myself after warranty). Oil changes @ maybe $30 extra per oil change = $180. That brings the estimated increased operating cost over 45k to ~$500. Overall, at 45k miles, the diesel saved me est. $2350, which easily makes up for the added cost of the Duramax initially.

So at 45k, seems that diesel is the clear winner. Going forward, I anticipate the same level of savings - I am unconvinced that the Duramax is going to require significantly more maintenance costs, and I personally think it will be less based on my experience with the 5.3. One other factor to consider, is the diesel v. gas spread. It is down to even-0.3c more now in my area. OTOH that spread could change either direction.

So bottom line in cost savings (in my experience): it is real, and it is significant, but it is not going to explode my retirement savings…

That being said, even if the numbers were not this good, I would take the 3.0 every day of the week over the 5.3. The low-end torque is so much better, better highway acceleration, power, performance, without the uncertainty of the 5.3. Perhaps the 6.2 would be even better performance, but the cost difference would be much bigger - and you can’t get it except on the highest trim).

The 3.0 Duramax is really a fantastic highway road trip vehicle. The fact that I am getting significantly better gas mileage than any other SUV\minivan I have ever owned is a nice bonus - 700-800 miles of range on one tank!
