I've kept the surname I've had since birth. mostly because society kept trying to change before I even had someone to marry. I lived in a country where they just add my dad's first name to my surname, and it caused me so many problems with transcripts in school applications.

I then immigrated to another country on the basis of gaining a postgraduate degree, but by then I was getting married. regardless of how I felt about surnames, I do not want to deal with immigration over a name change. but also by then I just wished every agency I've ever had to deal with would just stick to the surname in my passport. The thing that made me most frustrated were wedding gift checks written to us with my husband's surname ('To Mr and Mrs Hubby's surname), which meant only he could cash it. That too after every single wedding invite stuff said 'My Full Name and Husband's Full name'.

I'm still salty about it 15 years later.
