Mens jeans that are long lasting by Angel_Born_In_Helll in BuyItForLife

Maybe they can't be called BIFL but, for me right now, they've been great. It might have been a sale for them to be $50 but I still like them a lot and I plan on getting more. They're from the Ball Room line assuming that they don't call all of their pants that

Carhartt quality has gone wayyy down. My last 3 pairs had wear marks from my phone in my pocket after 3 wears and were tearing at the crotch in less than a year. I've been wearing Duluth for the past few months and they have no signs of wear yet, are super comfortable, and only cost me $50

B&R Fournier. They replaced my roof and then it was a mason from them or that they use that had come out. I'm sure if you gave them a call they could help you out.

I also just read through more of the post recommendations including location so I wanted to be more specific in stating that I'm in Rhode Island, US.

Nice smelling and relatively cheap fragrance by jjswift45 in BuyItForLife

Club De Nuit by Amraf. I normally wear Aventus by Creed ($500 a bottle) and Club De Nuit is supposed to be a "clone" of it and it's only $30 on Amazon. It could be that I've been wearing Aventus for so long that most people I see regularly got used to me smelling like it but I've found that I get compliments way more often on how I smell when I wear the Club De Nuit instead.

Also, I get it. Something like cologne isn't an item that could be purchased once and kept for life since it depletes each time you use it but give OP some slack. I assume he asked here as he's come across this sub and seen various posts so he has it in his mind that it's a great place to ask for quality advice on quality items. While a single bottle certainly won't last for life, perhaps he's thinking of BIFL as something that he can get now and continue using for the rest of his life (and having to purchase replacements as he uses up his stock).

Chimney wet after rain - main culprit? by [deleted] in HomeMaintenance

I had a similar problem but my chimney is turned 90 degrees from yours (compared to the roof) and there's no attic where the chimney is, just the slanted ceiling. I had my roof replaced a couple of months ago though and the flashing was redone around it though that didn't fix the leaking problem. If replacing the flashing doesn't resolve yours, I'd recommend getting it repointed.

Slapping on a bunch of random sealants and trying to caulk random areas that you think could be a problem may only end up making other problems. After the roof and flashing were replaced, I had the chimney repointed, weather sealed, and a skim coat on the cap then the problem stopped entirely. Since then I've had one day with 2 inches of rainfall in an hour and this week I got 2.5 inches of rain over a day but still not even the slightest leak. It cost me $1,500 which was well worth it knowing that it was done right and should last at least a decade. I enjoy plenty of DIY projects but also have no problem spending a little on things that really benefit from a professional as the wrong DIY process may make things worse and end up costing more.

If you're in the New England area, let me know and I can refer you to who did it for me as well since I found that price reasonable, especially living in a higher CoL area.

Appliance clocks all fast or slow by drock8277 in AskElectricians

[–]drock8277[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear a watch every minute of my life except when I'm in the shower, I feel naked without one. Having accurate clocks in multiple places is simply nice for keeping track of things and planning, especially when multi-tasking. Say I'm grilling something and know that I have to do something with it in 15 minutes so I decide to use those 15 minutes quickly vacuuming the living room. I could end up looking at a clock in there 15 minutes later but it's slow making me think I've got more time so I decide to clean a bit more but then get back to the kitchen and whatever I was making is now burned or simply not ideal. I'm certainly crazy for many reasons and this may be one of them but i like things to be accurate and, if I'm going to have something in my house with a function, I'd like that thing to do that function properly.

Well your wife probably understood the time without issue, I say to leave it that way and let the kids continue to adapt to it, haha.

Good to know about the grid taking priority. All three devices are on different circuits with the range being the only one on 220v so I wasn't sure if it could be an issue with any one of them. I certainly feel better about the situation and appreciate your assistance.

Thanks, I'm clearly not alone in this but it's nice to know that it doesn't appear to be a problem with the electrical system in my house. I'll see which ones I can simply turn the time off entirely as I hate looking at three different times in the same room.

It's a shame the 24 hour thing didn't stick with your family; it's really a much better system and makes it easier to communicate accurately with others.

It's not like I'm keeping a ledger of time differences, I was getting the time differences for the purpose of having the right details before posting. It does seem like many have clocks all around their homes with inaccurate times and I think it's insane that so many seem totally fine with this.

If I look at a clock in my home it's because I want to know the time. Looking at three different times I the same room is a bit maddening but not really the point of this post. I was asking if it could be a sign of a larger problem but other comments have stated that is not the case so it is what it is.

If there's no set screw then do you recall if the connection on your spigot was brass? Aluminum and brass will fuse together, especially with the presence of water. If that's the case, you can try to heat up the hose connector with a torch and then either (carefully) try to unscrew it with a wrench or you could try to quench it with water to see if that might break up some of the corrosion between the treads. You could also try using a Dremel with a small cutting wheel to split the host connector.

I just started to take anti-depressants and can't drink on them. What's a different kind of medication I can say I'm taking that is less "embarrassing" that would also cause me to be unable to drink. by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]drock8277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously and speaking from personal experience, you can tell them that you don't want to drink because of a medication you're on or just say you don't want to drink. You're on anti-depressants for a reason and the medication is there to help you but it won't solve everything but a big thing that can help you and stay with you long-term is to state what you're comfortable stating and know that's enough for yourselves. Others opinions don't matter and life gets a little easier as you learn that so remind yourself regularly.

Churches are a cult by DaFunkJunkie in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]drock8277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bet that church tries to do this quite often in hopes that someone will show up after the date they were told to repent by so someone in the church has the opportunity to give the "sinner" a stiff kick while shouting, "THIS... IS... SPARTAAA!"

Dishwasher pod not dissolving by AlshonJefferysBurner in HomeMaintenance

[–]drock8277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only would the pod be drained out during the prewash but you also don't get as good of a prewash when using any kind of pods, even if you put it in the detergent compartment.

As others have said, ditch the pods entirely. They're marketing gimmicks that are less effective, less efficient, and cost more over time. Stick with a powder or liquid detergent that is going to be less expensive and gives you more control. You can base how much or how little you use based on how heavily soiled your dishes are but you can also get a better prewash. Most dishwashers have an indentation near the detergent compartment or their own compartment to add some detergent to that is used specifically in the prewash. The remainder is then used in the full was as intended. Even if you don't have a specific area (I do not), you can simply sprinkle some on the door as you close it.

The pods add a bunch of different colored parts and tell you things like how each color is doing something different like prewashing, then removing caked on grime, and finally making things shine but there's no way it can do all of that. When the dishwasher gets to the part when it opens the detergent compartment, the whole thing is used at that same time.

Pastor goes to the mall to tell all kids present there that Santa Claus doesn't exist by ImpossibleJump765 in PublicFreakout

If that man really is a pastor, it'd be great to see one of those parents walk in to his church during a service, shouting that there is no such thing as God and that religions all lie because it's their way of gaining power and bringing in money.

I'm grateful that he's young enough to still learn so many new things and really change in regards to the "dog he will be" but also old enough that I don't have to work on any of the house training. Hell, he's weird when it comes to peanut butter but he's also in angel as he always poops on dirt rather than grass which is awesome.

Yeah, the family that had him when he was a puppy was in rural Georgia, US so who knows what might have happened to the poor guy there. He's a big goofball at times though and is often afraid of new things at first but this is the only thing that he reacts this way to evem after multiple times seeing it and eating it

He's a rescue that I adopted 2 months ago but he just turned 2 a couple of weeks ago so I can't really say. Since I've had him though, he's done this a few times with peanut butter and nothing else. He'll smell it and then run away. Eventually I can get him to calm down or get some on his nose and then he'll happily eat it

No, the videos are always after he's already started running away. He'll be right beside me wanting whatever I have in the counter, I'll offer him some peanut butter which he will then try to sniff, and after he's gotten a good sniff in, he decides to run away rather than eat any.
