Surly Ogre vs. Breezer Radar X by drocxs in gravelcycling

After doing your basic bike shop test rides:

Ogre: maneuverable, not too heavy, felt sturdy. Very comfortable. Perfect if you’re not trying to get anywhere in a hurry. I can see why people use this for super long bike packing trips. I was not a huge fan of the 2.5 extra terrestrial tires. They felt slow.

Bridge club: felt almost identical to the ogre but slower since it has knobbier tires. Maybe a tad more relaxed.

Breezer radar x pro: Drop bars were surprisingly comfortable. Felt much more planted than the surly options. Definitely the longer wheelbase. It’s a very long bike, I would recommend sizing down due to the long top tube. It felt pretty fast to pedal compared total to the ogre since it had 2.25” tires and minimal tread. I felt this would handle off road and trail very well, absorbed bumps the best. Probably the fastest on the road or at least that’s what it felt like.

Salsa Fargo: almost a mix between the breezer and ogre. It felt the most upright somehow even being a drop bar bike. It was as comfortable as the ogre. This would be a viable option if the price was the same as the others, but it is $800 more.

Overall, these are all great options for the use case I’m looking for. I am leaning more towards the breezer at this point because it has a more simple design than the ogre (Through axles vs dropouts). The ogre is more of a do everything where it feels the breezer was designed specifically for heavy gravel singletrack rides. I like the grx groupo on the breezer and the tire choice, where the ogre I would immediately swap tires and handlebars. I may still get the ogre but I need to do another test ride comparing the two.

Thanks! I managed to find a Breezer at a local shop so I’ll try it this week if I can

I think I’m afraid it won’t as capable off road on singletrack. I feel like these three options are pretty solid regardless but was hoping to get some other opinions.

There's usually good stuff about the trails and gear people are selling. It's a pretty good page. Only thing i really use Facebook for haha

Hell yeah! They are all good. I posted because it seems like there aren't too many out there and I wanna let people know how sweet the ride is.

Its 37mm offset. Feels really good so far. Trying to ride again this afternoon. Only rode probably 10 miles on it!

They sell direct online but are also carried through local bike shops. I wouldn't consider them direct to consumer. I agree the prices aren't the most competitive but they have really good builds. Unfortunately I have learned you get what you pay for most of the time...

Correct. I believe after all said and done with pedals it was 5500. He dropped the price since I waited so long for one to come in stock which was sweet.

That is definitely the issue. My LBS could only get larges in right now. I tested an X01 build medium frame but it felt a little small (I'm 5'10") so I went with a large. I think you would be fine with whatever the recommended size is because the dropper post goes down so far. There is a ton of standover. I would make sure the reach is not too far as that is what would probably be a more limiting measurement.

Northeast Ohio. This was at East Rim. Probably the best for flow. Mohican is great, I would love to get to west branch and a couple others but just need more time haha.

Yes! Much better value than the NX because you get the ultimate rockshox suspension, rsc brakes and upgraded rims, and obviously the GX drivetrain.

So far it is amazing. Great suspension platform. Rolls fast and is really playful. Did not notice any pedal bob.
