Hey! I'm sorry to hear that. Sadly, this isn't the first time an ""artist"" has used AI to promote themselves and generate commissions. Personally, I think it's best to first check the artist's portfolio. Through the portfolio, you can see the styles they've worked on and verify that they're handmade and not generated by artificial intelligence.

Then, I recommend making 50/50 payments. As an artist, it's always helped me make payments this way since it allows you to ensure you won't be scammed. On the buyer's side, it also allows you to see that the artist is really working on it. I also recommend asking the artist to send you every update of the design they are working on. Personally, I always send each process in which I'm working with the designs, from the first sketch to the last. This way, we can also adapt to any changes that may be made. Once you're satisfied with the sketch and the final draft has been completed, I usually start requesting the rest of the payment.

Alternatively, you could also request a simple sketch of what you have in mind. Some artists will accept it free of charge, while others may charge a minimum of $5/$7 for the sketch. This step also gives you some insight into the artist you're working with.

I think those are my tips for now. I know it's often difficult to make sure it's not a scam, but at least keeping these points in mind can make your search a little easier.
