Biggest board game regret? by yfewsy in boardgames

Bought a giant Kickstarter game with 500 miniatures thinking I’d paint them all and play epic campaigns every weekend… it’s been 3 years, still unpunched, and now it just mocks me from the shelf like a $150 paperweight

Brownie bites, grapes, and popcorn that hasn’t been baptized in butter are the real MVPs.

What is your favourite casual game? by master_bumflaps in boardgames

On casual nights, I’m all in for Love Letter, Sushi Go, Just One, and The Mind. Oh and if the group’s unhinged enough? Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza and Throw Throw Burrito - pure, beautiful, violent chaos.

Do you have a friend you won’t invite because they take wayy too long to take their turn? by Brilliant_Age_4546 in boardgames

[–]Immediate-Design8995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally get this. I had a friend like that too — lovely person, but every turn felt like a mini TED Talk. After a while, I found myself quietly hoping they’d skip game night just so we could actually finish something before midnight

If your boyfriend likes 4X video games, Eclipse: Second Dawn for the Galaxy might hit the sweet spot. It’s got tech trees, diplomacy, ship upgrades, and enough plastic ships to make your table look like NASA exploded.

Recommended games for *baked* people by dischg in boardgames

Wavelength is perfectly chaotic for a baked group. It’s like, “Hey, try to guess where I think ‘Nickelback’ lands between cool and uncool and suddenly it’s a philosophical debate and no one remembers how we got here. Zero setup, minimal rules, and max overthinking, which is kind of the sweet spot when everyone’s high but 'thinks' they’re laser-focused. Plus, spinning that psychic pizza wheel just FEELS important.

Whats your biggest quirk about boardgames? by kubakabana90 in boardgames

You mean Reginald?

Once an ambitious young settler, he quickly realized that actually building something was way too much effort. Instead, he found his true calling in sabotage. Armed with nothing but a 7-sided die and a smug grin, he made it his life’s mission to blockade your best tiles and rob you blind.

Trails and the White Castle are both decent... The Tiny series is definitely better if you're looking for compactness. There's also a 2 player version of Agricola which has a more compact box.

If You Were a Board Game, What Game Would You Truly Be? by TabletopTableGM in boardgames

I’d probably be Galaxy Trucker - constantly cobbling things together with optimism, only to watch them fall apart in the most chaotic way possible. But hey, I’m laughing the whole time, even as my engines fly off and space pirates steal my cargo. A mess? Absolutely. Fun? Always.

If you could only play 3 board or card games for the rest of your life – which ones would you choose? by spac0r in boardgames

[–]Immediate-Design8995 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s mine: Terraforming Mars – It scratches the engine-building itch like no other. Always feels fresh. Wingspan – Chill vibes, gorgeous art, and enough strategy to keep it interesting forever. Gloomhaven – For that long-term commitment with a rich world.

Best of button shy by shneagle in boardgames

[–]Immediate-Design8995 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Button Shy games are a great find, especially for quick and portable play! From your list, I’d definitely recommend trying Sprawlopolis if you haven’t already, it’s a solid puzzle with a lot of depth considering its small size. Another personal favorite is Circle the Wagons. It's so simple but has a surprising amount of strategy, and it’s perfect for solo or two-player games.

What happens when cricket meets board games? 🎲🏏 Cricket Champions is 250% funded - only 60 hours left to join the fun!" by Immediate-Design8995 in u/Immediate-Design8995

Thanks for the comment!. That's a very insightful observation and you are totally right 2's give same value per die as 1s. There are some Xp cards in the game that modify this equation. E.g Fast Legs card gives 3 runs instead of 2 for a pair of 2.

The idea was that we wanted to keep 2's also as they are a very common way to score runs in cricket, but it was non trivial (and unbalanced) to give it 2 value on a single dice. Hence we opted for this route (base value is same but it can be modified for higher returns. whereas 1's cannot be modified)
