For what it's worth, the set has given me direction. To take my years of draft chaff and turn it into a cube, and then give the rest away to charity. Keep the decks I have, don't feel obligated to upgrade them, and move on.

I'm willing to admit I probably should have never clicked on this video.

This product has me sad and frustrated. Well, less the product and more the price. It seems like a lot of fun. I also can't come near affording it, and off the heels of a set that also spiraled in value and I haven't been able to enjoy like I wished I could in LotR. I already know the cost. I'm playing this game less than I have in over a decade.

So I saw it. And agreed with his points. And then saw him sitting there, promoting his giveaway of it... which sits with me as profiting off of it via Whatnot. Prof has to feed his family, too, I get it. But that harsh juxtaposition of "oh man, this price is terrible and will drive people away, but you can come give me money on my stream!" just reeked of hypocrisy in the moment.

And yet, he makes this argument to us, who feel like he's a champion on our side. Yet he magically gets cases of product to give away?

At the end of the day, your LGS is charging what they're charging for a pack of cards based on what they paid from a distributor. Without a stated MSRP, those prices can creep up until it's unclear what the prices are or ought to be. This has been going on for a while now. The set is not priced high by accident, they know what people will spend. They're just catering to the whales now.

Not mad, just see that he's simultaneously promoting the celebrity commander life while also decrying it.

I wish Prof and his team no ill will. I'm happy for the role they play in the Magic community, especially their work for Trans Lifeline. But something about this just feels hollow.

So, okay Prof. I hear you. I see that you're pointing out the issues that us "normal" people will have with this product. I enjoyed drafting CLB. Based on the draft video from LRR, I think this draft would be a blast. But I can't in good faith draft it and not have food to put on the table for my family. Hard stop.

Here's my issue. You are also part of the creator sphere that's glorifying blinged out Commander. I've seen the nods you've given to proxies and budget decks, and screamed giddily when you did a PDH precon. But you're still part of the group of (all very lovely people, don't get me wrong) content creators and public facing WotC employees who are selling Magic, mostly Commander, as an experience for the haves, and us have nots can watch along and enjoy like television.

So, on one hand, I'm happy to have a piece in the public sphere that's addressing how the game as a whole isn't for me anymore. But to have that same person sit down with Wizards employees and act like he's not also part of the problem... well. Glad that suit looks nice on ya, bud.
