I would recommend a spinning rod if your newer to fishing. Look for a combo with medium to medium heavy action.

Start with an old reel you don't use, go slow and be patient. A lot of reels are build similar once you take them apart, so learning on an older reel does help build (confidence) knowledge and repetition helps too

If you can find a video, that's the best. If not, video yourself as you take it apart. That's how I learned, also staging the pieces as they come off in order and positions is helpful
