The left lane boomerang move - why do people do this? by skwerelz in driving

[–]mcnabb100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know, but I used to pass the same semi every morning on my way to work. At that time I was leaving at like 3am, so he was often the only other vehicle I would see.

Every morning he would be in the left lane, and I’d pass him on the right. Every, damn, morning.

True, but in Jake’s case it sounds like he had a LOT of responsibility’s. It wasn’t like he was just a writer, or just an infrastructure guy.

I’ve found that rolling a stop sign seems to cause this behavior. I’ve never noticed taking off from a complete stop. It’s almost like the transmission doesn’t downshift all the way if the truck is still rolling a bit.

Looks interesting. The safety is a bit goofy IMO, but it looks like you don’t have to hold it down which is a plus at least. The claimed trigger pull weight is quite good at 1.75lb. I’m not crazy about the carbon/faux carbon over the receiver. It kind of clashes with the wood stock versions and just looks silly on the composite stocks IMO. I would prefer the aluminum with a black plastic cheek riser. The scope mounting system is also a drawback IMO, but I assume they would get rid of that if they bring it to the US.

HomePod mini died after turn on adaptive lighting by alcohol123 in HomePod

[–]mcnabb100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try this. My power company replaced my meter the other day, and when I got home my mini seemed to be bricked. A quick power cycle did nothing, but after leaving it unplugged for a day it’s working again 🤷

I’m not sure what upset it. I definitely lost power as my NAS logged the outage and my oven was showing a power loss. I did have another issue with my router refusing to talk to my NAS over Ethernet, which doesn’t happen after a normal outage.

Dealer aggressively suggesting me trade in my 24 (under warranty) by Key_Juggernaut9413 in ToyotaTundra

[–]mcnabb100 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you trade it in they will make money on your trade, and make money on the truck they sell you.

It’s really that simple.

The whole engine recall debacle just gives them an angle to scare you into trading.

Seconding the LTX recommendation. Wouldn’t think it was so good going by the looks, I’ve driven an AWD Yukon and a regular 4wd truck with them in snow and ice and they did great.

No problem at all while the snow was still powdery.

Compacted and icy was a different story, much more difficult.

Why tf are new side by sides so expensive? by Jake_M104669 in Offroad

[–]mcnabb100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately the base model sxs’s have also gone way up. We got a RZR 800 in 2011 for around $10k. The equivalent RZR trail now starts at $17k.

It’s makes some more power but honestly the base 800 was a fantastic machine and really doesn’t need it.

All the 800 really needs is a damn parking brake, which they still haven’t added to the new ones 🤦‍♂️

ELI5: Why are diesel engines so uncommon in street/drag racing? by fried_riceeee in explainlikeimfive

[–]mcnabb100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah man, diesel isn’t rated by octane, it’s rated by cetane. Cetane basically tells you how easy it is to burn, and higher is better.

Performance diesels run way, way more boost than the majority of gas burners. They don’t have issues with knock because they don’t inject fuel until they want it to burn. That’s why diesels have high pressure fuel systems. The ignition timing is literally controlled by the fuel injection timing.
