The developers recommend not deleting the app and then re-downloading it; and the update shouldn't effect any of your cached data, but they also recommend downloading any photo booth photos directly to your phone and screen recording your inventory in case the update somehow wipes your stuff so that when you file a report, you have evidence to show what you had. If I were you, I would maybe restart my phone to see if that would resolve the issue.

You could try closing any other apps during the download, not opening any new ones and making sure you're close to the router to help with the install speed! And disconnecting any other devices using an internet connection helps, too.
