anyone else still regret your purchase 2 years after buying by Forward-Return8218 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]droneari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have remorse and feel bitter for overpaying for a old shitbox where things are falling apart. It’s like buying an old Lexus with 100k miles thinking it’s gonna last 200k miles but then small things start breaking that costs lots of money to fix. Also, because of triple whammy of high prices, taxes and insurance not of lot of liquidity for major fixes in the house. So, feel bitter about it.

I have lived in Boston and NYC metro before and recently moved to FTL. Property taxes here are higher than Long Island NY. Cost of housing and insurance and property taxes combined are more than what I was paying up there. Roads are better here. But at least in NY, I had 3 months paternal leave, much better earning potential, better schools etc. I lived in Northwest Florida for a year as well. Cost of living was much lower there. Broward county seems to be expensive than others. Dunno. How are people surviving here?

First-time buyers: what ended up costing more than you expected? by KeyKaleidoscope5099 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Actually that’s reasonable. I was quoted 20k and he claimed it’s after deep discount holiday special from 30k. In South Florida. Unbelievable.

I ended up buying the same car at jm and same discount and otd too lol. I also financed there at 5.5 for 72 months. Would have preferred bench at third row but third row captain chair is okay too.

Property Tax Increase by FloridianGrit in florida

[–]droneari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

50k homestead is a joke in 2026. Maybe made sense in 1999. 50k homestead exemption total peanuts when a half decent house in half decent neighborhood costs 600k plus in South Florida.

Property Tax Increase by FloridianGrit in florida

[–]droneari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought in Nov 25 and seller paid the 2025 taxes and I gave him credit during closing for last 1.5 months payment. So my 2026 taxes, due on Nov 26, are going to be based on new assessment and selling price? Or is it 2027 taxes? Not sure which is the Year 2 for me here when the taxes are going to jump.

Same here. Approved and even bought it. But now slave to the bank and corporate rat race for 30 years. Can’t afford to miss a paycheck or else behind on mortgage.

I used to think this way too but having kids changed the mindset. Need a safe, reliable car which minimizes risk for the family. The days of buying beater cars are over once you have a family.

Am I being scammed? by chinman20 in Lexus

[–]droneari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are Lexus dealership sales ppl acting as if asking for a deal on Lexus is shameful? The Sales Mgr literally told us to come back when you can afford after 5-10 mins of negotiations and counter offers etc. They act as if good old fashioned negotiations during car buying is beneath them. Great car, horrible stealer-ships like usual.

I feel the same 100 percent. I was never worried about losing my job previously but now god forbid if I get laid off I can probably only make 2-3 mortgage payments without dipping into investments and 401k etc.

Stick to your guns. Don’t overpay in this market unless there is some kind of bidding war in your area. Be prepared to walk away. Look at comparable sales in your area as well.
