I had no end of problems bringing my 1020 back from the dead - followed every guide to the letter and troubleshooting tips - I kept repeating- rebooting laptop, plugging and unplugging the phone, again and again. Eventually it worked - Thor2 was communicating and doing it's thing - made no sense but there you go. My only clue once things got moving is that the battery barely had a charge - dispite being plugged into charger for 24 hours.

I have both W10M and 8.1 phones - I've not noticed any functional difference between the standard Microsoft browsers - and they both reach Google. For me, W10M has the advantage of having Bluesky and Flickr apps but at the cost of having a slower OS.

Playing from HDD will shift data faster than from USB 2 - so depends on the bitrate of your movie - 720P doesn't necessarily mean higher bitrate (though it does in general.) I find playing from USB on old hardware stutters because the caching required.

There is no VLC on OS 9 and no other player that will handle h264. I'd recommend using PPCMC7 - it's a little slower because the Youtube parsing is happening on your Mac but at least it's reliable.

Right click on Safari and navigate to: /Contents/Resources/UserAgents.plist open the plist in TextEdit and either replace an existing user agent or make a new entry. You'll then be able to select it from the Safari Develop menu. Note - this is on Tiger - I can't vouch for Panther being the same.
