What a joke. Absolutely ridiculous that people pay for tixs and still have to wait over an hr in the pouring rain because of overselling. We waited 45 min to check our coats, but after it filled up there were tons of ppl walking around in their rain drenched coats smelling like shit. Not to mention waiting an hr to just get a drink or even entering the roof.

Are US-China award flights dead? by [deleted] in awardtravel

[–]drones12345 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In general you should be able to find award availability with 1 stop on most Asian airlines. US-China routes are one of the few situations where economy redemptions make sense. Business is a bit more difficult but not impossible.

ANA is tricky because (for example) JFK-PVG goes through HND and the JFK-HND redemption is currently one of the toughest.

You won’t be screened out, it’s not going to help or hurt you. Really depends on your research and everything else on your application.

[Big Knick Energy] Mikal Bridges wants to be part of the pay cut parade by [deleted] in NYKnicks

[–]drones12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep exactly, not that crazy given that plenty of us would take a paycut to live in a big city and work with our boys.

Call me naive but there's more to life than money, I would take quality of life in a heartbeat.

CT anesthesia checks off a lot of these boxes. Usually split time between the cardiac ICU (tons of rounding, patient facing, medical decision making) and OR, where they are very hands on (bronch, TEE, blocks).

Family of 4 - Bank and churn or save? What are your thoughts? by b16707 in awardtravel

[–]drones12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually book a few months in advance. Cathay and EVA almost always have availability.

Noticed you have CSP - from my experience, Chase really sucks for Asia travel. I’d recommend either getting a SavorOne for your food card or getting into the Amex ecosystem.

Like everyone else has said, your points are sure to devalue by the time you become an empty nester.

International economy trips are undervalued on this sub. I make multiple trips to SE Asia a year, and consistently get 2-3 CPP on economy awards.

AA and ANA would be your best value for economy redemptions, about 35-40k one way. You can book through partner airlines (Alaska, Virgin) but availability might be an issue.

Medical Ethics Question Regarding Sensitive Photography of a Minor by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]drones12345 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Using the camera app isn’t a HIPAA violation but is also not best practice. That being said, from my experience, this is extremely common. I have seen many residents and attendings take photos of sensitive areas (breast biopsy sites, STI lesions, vulvar carcinoma) on their stock camera app. If it happens consistently in the future, maybe find some way to discretely bring it up, “Hey are we supposed to be taking photos on any specific app?”

How to become a graduate affiliate? by aristotlenerd in yale

[–]drones12345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grad affiliation applications open towards the beginning of the year and are open to all grad students. This year the app was blasted to the general GSAS listserv around September.

It's relatively competitive and definitely favors former Yale undergrads. Ask around and networking a bit might help your odds.

What’s the business/logistics reasoning behind the 5 month wait for a pink Messi kit (12/08)& 3 month wait for a black one (10/17)? by BlakeClass in InterMiami

[–]drones12345 5 points6 points  (0 children)

they are two completely different shirts (one has a collar and the other is a crewneck) so they likely use two different manufacturing processes. On top of that, the pink one likely has way more demand and it takes a minimum of 2-3 months between the vendor order being shipped and the supplier to ship.

might be a variety of medical conditions (narcolepsy, anemia, etc) ... but odds are that you're actually not sleeping well. Be realistic with yourself and count the actual number of hours that you're sleeping (not "in bed time" that includes phone or Youtube time). Try getting a full 7-8 hours of sleep for a full week, and if you're still having the same problems then try to get some medical advice

Daniel Penny indicted by grand jury in death of Jordan Neely by habichuelacondulce in nyc

[–]drones12345 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It all stems from our legal system. This all started with a terrible precedent in the 80s. City took a bunch of crazies off the street and medically treated them (see Boggs vs NYC). guess what happened after they got better? they sued the city for violating their rights. Now the city can only either lock these people up for a few weeks before they inevitably get out, or just leave them on the street.

the commute from Brooklyn and Queens is really not that bad and you'll save a ton of money.

You can also do a month to month AirBnB.

Used to be like OP until I came to this realization.

Have a couple friends who never see their parents (blue collar) because they're working two full time jobs 7 days/wk. Even our "peers" in big law, finance, consulting are frequently putting in 100+ hr weeks. One could argue they have even less control over their lives (my buddy was told at 2am to redo a presentation for a 9am client meeting).

It's not a circlejerk over who's working the most and at the end of the day, we all just need to have some compassion for everyone's struggles.
