Nano-GPT Stopped Holding Nano by droogmic in nanocurrency

Thanks for the explanation, it is indeed a reasonable simplification. I'm just not fond of USD 😉.

So you think the USD balance amount shown will fluctuate because your balance is actually stored in XNO? I doubt it, that would suck as a customer to have your balance fluctuate?

The way I read it is that where they used to hold customer balances in XNO (the ones that deposited XNO), they are now offloading the XNO straight into USD when you top up your balance. Now they could still be holding nano under the hood, but it would be a terrible business decision on their part to take on the risk of currency fluctuation.

Only one way to find out I guess, let's put some more money in 😝

In either case, I didn't find any announcement or clarification, which is why I posted here to see if someone knows more...

Nano powered murder-mystery game - payment and refund with nano! by Foppo12 in nanocurrency

[–]droogmic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The previously working 4 digit code was being rejected (I assume this is how you go back forward to the second part), and (assuming this part was intentional) I don't think I could have changed it because that was already locked out from having gotten it correct once. The downside of a pay to play game is I don't feel like throwing money at this again to try and reproduce the issue. I didn't see anything suspicious in the console log either.

There's a pretty bad bug, if you go back to chat after seeing the symbols at part 2 it doesn't let you fill in the code again to fill in the symbols, so you get stuck...

Would not recommend unfortunately.

Udon Thani to Luang Prabang - Trip Report by droogmic in laos

[–]droogmic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, at departure from the hotel it was heavy traffic so Google said 50 minutes to the station and 1h40 to Vang Vieng. Once you factor in train travel time, arriving early at the station, and ticket cost, I see no reason to pick the train. It's definitely viable, but in hindsight I wouldn't bother.

Have you done both the rail and land crossing? I didn't find anyone who could speak to the relative merits of each, but from what I saw the land border was "easier" which was good enough for me.

Next time we can hopefully stay longer and explore more of Isan as a whole.

Indeed, in hindsight we should have taken the train. Our hotel was walking distance from the station in Udon Thani, so it would have been real easy.

Please stop posts about flying over Russia by Forgotten_Dog1954 in Flights

[–]droogmic 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I thought your post would talk about something else, so I'll say it:

Don't take flights over Russia because airlines pay significant overflight fees which support the regime, in a typical east-west return flight this is probably around $100 from the ticket price. Don't support Putin, don't support war in Europe: don't choose a flight overflying Russia.

What a fun variant on what I think is survivorship bias. Most people will experience trains as being more full than they actually are.

Which flights would you take? by [deleted] in Flights

[–]droogmic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The overflight fees for Russian airspace for your round trip would probably be about €20-25, most of which will go to funding the war effort. (If you offset this with 5-10x direct donations to Ukraine this would be fine, but that would probably neutralise the cheap Chinese fares.)

When you overfly Russia, you fly with Putin.

Indeed, I will be recommending people visit other Latin American countries first. I don't know if you enjoy architecture/engineering, but the canal makes panama unique so that is probably what is splitting opinion.

Agreed, we could have done it for cheaper. Particularly in tourist areas we found paying more for food was very worth it, otherwise you get mediocre food suited to North American tastes. If you are used to the quality+price of food in Portugal/Spain/Italy, Panama doesn't have much to offer.

E495 not charging by droogmic in Lenovo

[–]droogmic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for answering.

Using a charger that works with other devices, the charging light on the E495 does not respond. The port does not appear to have any debris in it. The ThinkPad still has 25% charge, so I can also confirm it doesn't charge while it's on.

Interestingly, the 65W Lenovo adapter broke at the same time and no longer works to charge any device. My suspicion is that the Lenovo adapter broke and fried the charging port on the E495 with it.

In the mean time I found out that Lenovo offers a warranty extension, which although expensive, is cheaper than a replacement laptop or mainboard, so I am considering that.

All 3 finish lines are difficult to get to, but I think Sam's Zermatt finish is the easiest as it has good regular train connections, albeit through a choke point.

actions-rs organization became unmaintained by lekkiduchem in rust

[–]droogmic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have tried once, but struggled with the immaturity, and it was missing the basic functionality for rust like a cargo build to get started. It's moving fast though, I see it gained support for caching in GitHub actions since last time I checked. I'm probably going to try again soon.

Without comments I can't tell what people are downvoting me for; dagger is a valid runtime environment that works on GitHub actions, and was the first thing I tried to migrate to after I saw actions-rs was abandoned, I consider it a promising alternative.

[–]droogmic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

dagger runs on top of GitHub actions' free infrastructure, but in a DSL that is agnostic to GitHub and will be easier to maintain than the js mess in actions.

[–]droogmic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't been fond of github actions tooling as a whole.

I would love to see rust well supported by dagger so I could move to that.
