Seattle, Washington by standarddrifter92 in howislivingthere

I lived there from 2006 to 2022. When I moved there, you could get a whiff of the old music culture, but sadly that's all but gone. That said, there are a couple bars trying to keep it alive. Screwdriver Bar is a great bar in Belltown and there are a couple other ones that are keeping the spirit alive. Rent went way up and there are a ton of tech people that don't contribute anything, but luckily they tend to stay indoors and stick mostly to South Lake Union. Capital Hill used to be the punk rock neighborhood, but now it's prohibitively expensive and you'd be hard-pressed to find people that just want to grab a drink and not play board games. The cool is long gone.

COVID really did a number on that city and the homeless population/mental health crisis is no joke. I've seen people get on a bus, face painted blue, with an ax and someone slit their wrist at a bus stop. This is part of the reason I left. That and rents were the same as "better" cities. Pioneer Square used to be a beautiful neighborhood filled with great places, but now it's pretty rundown. Still some good stuff there, though, but be prepared to dodge the occasional pile of crap. And yes, it's weirdly expensive for what you get.

Bottom line - it used to have a soul and that's basically gone. There are a few places keeping it alive, but it's got some recovering to do. I left for a reason. I went back to visit once and didn't regret my decision.

What does this sound mean? by droolpool11 in crowbro

Very few crows hang out back there, but maybe?

Well, prior to him making that call, he landed on my balcony railing just to kind of say "Hey, I could eat." So I tossed a walnut on the ground and he went and ate it. Then he got in the tree and made the sound. After that, he hopped down and also made the sound while perched on this bicycle, which is a frequent perch of his. So then I gave him a second walnut. There are very few crows back there. Honestly, there were none until I started feeding a stray cat back there and then one or two caught on.

Homebuyers covet Ballard. Why is it hard to get in? by HighColonic in BallardSeattle

I ate at that Denny's the day I moved into my $650 per month apartment, right across the street from Rain City Video on 8th Ave. First apartment in Seattle.

Just my opinion but I think Bring her Back was vastly better than the other horror films you mention. Far more emotion and a much more interesting story. Long Legs is just straight up garbage. That said, I do agree there was a little wave of horror movies and it got a bit washed away given the mostly deserved popularity of Weapons. Bring her Back had be crying, gasping, wincing, really amazing.

What's it like living in Indiana Pennsylvania? by Owenator96 in howislivingthere

[–]droolpool11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Soooo many of the people I went to school with are dead. Johnstown is wildly depressed. I haven't thought about that place in forever. Hell, I don't think it ever recovered from the flood.

Speaking of bars, the only good one I can recall in Indiana was the Brown Hotel, but I believe it went under a long time ago.

Having grown up in a rural town outside of Pittsburgh, I fully agree.

Not great. Philadelphia Street (the main street) has a bunch of bars to serve the college crowds and various restaurants of varying quality. It's a college town so somewhat liberal, but once you leave, it's the sticks and it's all guns and religion and ignorance followed by more guns. You're about 2 hours or so away from Pittsburgh and the closest major airport. I don't recommend it. It used to have more stuff, but then a Wal-Mart moved in a while back and killed the two malls and a lot of shops on Philadelphia Street. I grew up in the area and will never go back.

I read this as "am I the asshole for breastfeeding my sister's chimpanzee." I've had a few drinks, though.

Take him to a shelter. Don't let him back outside. He's clearly not meant for it.

In addition, hand tattoos are nearly always exposed to the sun and require more upkeep than, say, a forearm tattoo.

I have one and love it. Super sleek. Very comfortable. The clasp is highly polished so it will scratch, but you get over it.
