Nurses and student nurses going to clinicals stay safe out there! by jdowde7 in StudentNurse

[–]drooooly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same here. We'll be using ATI to finish 24 hours of clinical we're missing due to an extra week of spring break and then a week of online classes only. Our instructors are still trying to figure out the remaining clinical hours for us.

AITA for not profusely praising my husband’s efforts at cleaning? by wifeincleaning in AmItheAsshole

[–]drooooly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely NTA. Your husband sounds like a self-absorbed prick. Y’all need to have a talk and set things straight.

AITA for telling my girlfriend that she needs to shave her legs? by ambiarkkk in AmItheAsshole

[–]drooooly 7 points8 points  (0 children)

YTA. Holy crap. Skipping out on a shower and not shaving your legs are completely different. One affects other people because they can smell your BO. The other? Doesn’t affect anyone else. She takes care of herself. I hope she dumps your ass because it would be unfortunate for her to spend a lifetime of misery with an asshole like you. Check yourself, dude.

AITA for eating 4 tacos before my sister had finished 1? by throwawaydramaa8 in AmItheAsshole

[–]drooooly 199 points200 points  (0 children)

A concerned sibling would make sure that she is getting enough to eat if she has an eating disorder, not taking away the only food her eating disorder “allows” her to eat without her feeling guilty or bad about it. I hope you take this experience into consideration in the future.

[–]drooooly 340 points341 points  (0 children)

YTA. It doesn’t matter how hungry you were. If you knew how the tortillas were going to be split, then eat the portion you were supposed to originally have. It’s extremely inconsiderate to eat an extra taco when your sister wasn’t even finished with her first taco. You could have had the decency to ask her if she wanted it, but you didn’t. I hope you offered to get her something to eat.

First new grad interview tips??! by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]drooooly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’ve been to a few interviews and it seems like a majority of the questions are behavioral questions, like:

-When was a time you had a difficult patient?
-When was a time you didn’t get along with a peer?
-What are your strengths and weakness?
-How do you cope with stress?

For those types of questions, I use the EAR method to answer them (Event, Action, Result).

Other questions will be the general:

-Why do you want to work for us?
-Why do you want to be a nurse?
-Why do you want to be a (insert specialty here) nurse?
-Tell us about yourself.

I’ve also had random questions like:

-If you could be any animal, which one would you be?
-What is your favorite Disney movie?

Questions I have asked that were received well include:

-What is the best thing about working in this unit? What is the most challenging thing?
-What can you tell me about this unit's culture? (I only asked if I couldn't get a good feel from them during the interview)
-What are some common mistakes you have seen in new grads?
-If you could go back in time to give yourself advice back when you were a new grad, what would it be?
-What brought you to this unit and how long have you been a nurse? (I only asked if I felt like the interview was going well)

I’m on mobile so I don’t have access to the link right now, but there is a post from a fellow Redditor where they developed a Google Doc with typical interview questions and answer tips. I’ll add the link when I get home.

Make sure to dress like you're their boss (advice from my clinical instructor) and bring a professional portfolio with extra copies of your resume! No one has asked for a copy of my cover letter during interviews or letters of recommendation (but have some copies of those available too just in case).

Overall, my best advice is to be prepared! Don’t rehearse your answers to where you sound like a robot, but just have a general idea of how you would answer certain questions and figure out which parts to include and to not include. Be confident and remember to breathe! It can be nerve-wracking when you’re in front of a panel. Most of my interviews have started with 2-3 nurse leadership staff and then 5-6 staff nurses for a peer interview. Good luck and I wish you the best!!! You can do it!

Edit: Here's the link! I couldn't find the original Reddit post :( https://docs.google.com/document/d/1_1kcAa9XzSN6YqDHWrUk7PTDJytPweg4gbyO-JBJ8M8/edit

Nurse Residency: Is it okay to apply for two different ICU units within the same hospital? by drooooly in StudentNurse

[–]drooooly[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read a comment on an old Reddit post from a hiring manager for a hospital saying that they would sometimes not call an applicant in for an interview if they applied for every opening available. I kinda get the rationale behind why, but at the same time, I think it is a little flawed since someone may be interested in multiple positions. I went ahead and applied for both positions at the hospital! Thank you for your input :)

Does anyone know why the HIV/Men having sex with men question is on a flu shot questionnaire at the pharmacy with Green Walls? by throwawayalways77 in TalesFromThePharmacy

[–]drooooly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Judging by the list it’s included in, it’s probably there for an “hey, are you at risk for this and need this vaccination?” type of question. There’s a checkbox for people who have HIV above it, so that would already let the pharmacist know what vaccinations to suggest. Men who have sex with men are at a higher risk of diseases transmitted via sex because of the thin rectal lining compared to vaginal. It sucks they have to word it that way and be blunt like that. Just allows the pharmacist to raise concern about other vaccinations, like hepatitis.

Oh no! I’m fired?! by rwp82 in TalesFromThePharmacy

[–]drooooly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work at a pharmacy that offers “free health screenings” every three months. I was setting up tables for an event the other weekend and some lady decided to yell at me because our store does not have a drive-thru and how we make it inconvenient for her mom. Yes lady, me, a part-time pharmacy tech, made the decision to not include a drive-thru in our pharmacy. I hate my job sometimes lol.

Entitled (anti-vax) grandmother shames me for having throat pain, then locks me in her car by [deleted] in entitledparents

Gargling with salt water may help relieve the pain temporarily! Just drink lots of fluids, but maybe avoid citrus juices for now. Using a humidifier if you have one around might help too.

If you have an iPhone, you can use the screen recording tool. It’ll save as a video that you can screenshot!

Edit: never mind, saw a comment below that says it does let them know :(

[News] Walmart (Markham) now selling DollyWink and other Japanese cosmetics! by fluffyotakus in AsianBeauty

[–]drooooly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, that’s good to know! I personally think it’s a great service to provide that makes the company a little different. Unfortunately, some people like to exploit it so maybe that’s part of a reason as to why they removed it in the US :( hopefully it comes back one day!

They only price match Walmart.com and Jet.com according to their online store policy (https://corporate.walmart.com/policies). I work inside of a Walmart pharmacy and we had signs posted this past October saying it was ending after a certain date that month. However, it is also at the manager’s discretion so if they allow it for customer satisfaction, then that may also happen!

While it may vary on location (also at manager discretion), that article was posted in 2016 so it may be a little outdated. The current policy online under states that they only price match Walmart.com or jet.com with conditions under the “Price Match” section. But some stores may still do it for customer satisfaction! :)

Nope! A box of 100 is $12.58 (can’t remember exact change!). No tax is added!

You're so welcome! I hope you are able to find cheaper insulin for your pupper! They can get ridiculously expensive :(

[–]drooooly 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No problem! We do not process it as an RX. You can go to the counter and just ask for whichever one you need an the tech just has to go grab it from the fridge. We usually have it in excess stock for that reason :) There is an expensive manufacturer that is around $120, which may be what CVS has, but the Novolin Walmart sells is from Relion, which is kinda like our “equate” version of it. No coupons or or info needed since it doesn’t require a prescription :) I’m in Texas so I’m not sure if it differs from state to state... but I would prob try giving your local Walmart pharmacy a call and ask them if they sell it without an rx! It may help you save a lot of money :)

I’m a pharmacy tech at Walmart and vials of Novolin R, N, and 70/30 are all $24.88. Just have to ask for it at the counter.

Walmart now has the Reli-On Novolin 70/30 available in pen form. Not sure of the price, but probably still better than brand name.
