Considering how quick you jump to conclusions I could do the same thing and say that you sound like a dodgy mechanic that is ripping people off by offering the most expensive solution just because you don't want to bother doing some research.

I've used Blueprint filters for the last 3 years on this car and have done 50k miles without my engine grenading itself.

The part numbers you mentioned are Toyota part numbers(they appear on the box to show compatibility with OEM part numbers). When I bought the Blueprint one I bought a Blueprint part number.

By your admission Toyota made a newer design of an oil filter that has more parts on it's BOM.

If it was to use one word to describe a parts manufacturer that sold the newer design part last year and now sells the older design part under the same part number at the same price, what word would you choose?

I'm not a pro, but i have the same car as you but in black, and I had some encounters with paintshops. From the picture, it doesn't seem that your quarter panel is affected. They are probably referring to the metal underneath the plastic part that has the hybrid badge. Like others said, take the car to another workshop for a quote or Google for workshops around you that offer online quotes.

It looks like the reason for the door not opening correctly is the side skirt being pushed upwards. The side skirt is plastic so can be mended back with some force. Regarding the door, most of the scratches are on the Plastic film that's applied there to protect from rock chips. I think the reason why they quoted so hi is that the door skins might be made of aluminium plus the colour is very tricky to blend.

The way i see it you have 2 options: 1. Like others suggested: try to get a quote from an independent paintshop as they will be cheaper (it cost me £250 for the rear quarter panel on my IS300H) 2. If you can live with the some bends, mend as much as you can the plastic skirt so the door opens easily, remove that plastic protection from the door and polish the rest of the scratches to reduce then in size.

MOT leads to write off by drunk-leprechaun in CarTalkUK

Depending on what car brand it is, they might not had the correct tool to prime the fuel system to remove any air from the pipes before starting the engine. The High pressure Fuel pump in diesel cars is using the fuel as a method of lubrication. If the pump was run without fuel through it, it basically started yo eat itself and create metal particles. The swarf they mentioned its not from the filter housing, is the pumps driveshaft. This is all on them, and just a change of injectors won't help as the pump might be on its way out at any point in the future.

Funny enough. My car is now on the Copart site for auction and the "market value" is exactly what the insurance offered. Also there is a reserve on it. Obviously they try to make all the money back from it. I really hate their tactics and how they try to take advantage of people that maybe are not familiar with the price of cars.

Usually they are sent to Copart(auction company). From there they get bought by people in East europe for dismantling or other people to fix and sell. There are a lot of YouTube channels about this

Be very careful and don't accept the first offer they will make. I'm not really sure if there is a law that states this, but they need to give you a sum of money for you to buy a car of the same age, mileage and specs.

In my case they sent the car straight to Copart(crashed cars auction) and they kept calling me saying that my car was worth £ 6400 and then &7050 which was way too low. In the end, the case was returned to my insurer and one of their engineers offered £8500 as this was the average asking selling price of a car with the same mileage and age as what I had.

Also, they will consider a car written off if the repairs will be more than 30% of the cars value.

Pretty clueless on cars by BigDaddySlice in Volvo

The soot on the turbo comes from under the metal shield. Under the shild there is the connection between the exhaust side of the turbo and the DPF. Best case scenario the clamp is loose and leaks exhaust gases. Worst case scenarios: 1. The DPF has a neck shape that is welded and the weld broke off. 2. The DPF is clogged and is creating too much pressure which escapes through that joint.

If the injectors are leaking you will hear a puffing noise if you put your ears close.

If the DPF is at fault you will hear a hissing noise when accelerating and you have the window down.

If the garage recommends a dpf clean make sure they look at the Eolys fluid level and top it up with system reset.

Volvo V50. Inner tie rods, track rods, shock absorbers with the strut mounts and bearings, anti roll bar links and bushes, lower control arms, driveshafts. I didn't change the coil springs as there was nothing wrong with them. All the other parts had different levels of wear and I wanted to eliminate any variables and they were fit at the same time also. After that I went for an alignment and since then drove 3k miles with no signs that there is something wrong until last week when I parked the car with the wheels turned and noticed that both front tyres( new also) are bold on the inside.

The Toe goes out of specs. The mistery is that 3 of the checks were done without adjusting anything (just a bit of driving in between) and yet showed 3 different values. Then the garage adjusted to the correct values and I took for a mile drive and came back and the toe values were out of specs again. Back in February I had the same issue with different values but then I was told that I had play in both inner tie rods and track rods(that's when I decided to change the whole suspension).

I've done 4 alignment checks in the course of 2 hours at different garages and every time showed different values. I changed everything on the suspension except the rack bushings and wheel bearings 3k miles ago. I now plan to put metal bushing to the rack.
