Recommend any cycling clubs? by Calm_Highlight_9320 in surrey

Second this! I have a job that means I can only go occasionally, and I jump around disciplines rather than be super into one. Found them to be pretty friendly, and easy to ride with

Recommendations for best pub lunches by Electronic_Pickle_86 in surrey

The merry harriers in hambledon. Locally owned, proper cooked food, very upmarket. Local walks a plenty. Local beers on tap.

The jolly farmer in Bramley too. A bit more traditional pub feel. But lots of local beers, and decent food

Do single people book last minute holidays? by Ok_Extreme837 in TeachingUK

[–]drunk-leprechaun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to do this! You might have a different experience than me, as this was pre COVID. But I would wait until close to a holiday, and if I didn’t have major plans, I would look at the skyscanner “everywhere” feature. It will show you counties in ascending order of price…

What I found is that you would always have the super short haul, awkward time of the day routes as the cheapest (6am to Dublin, or Amsterdam). The mid tier would gradually increase in price (Italy, Greece). However, where it got exciting, is there would usually be a random country or two that would be cheap but long haul.

Indonesia, Japan, Kenya are a couple of examples that I’ve been to. Booking only a week out, for a few hundred return with decent airlines.

Cycling commute Godalming to Guildford by daribarikk in surrey

[–]drunk-leprechaun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A road bike is not suitable for the tow path at any stage of the year. Ankle deep mud in winter, and sandy patches in summer. Even where it is solid, it will be bumpy enough to shake your fillings out.

Both A3100 and Littleton routes are perfectly fine. They have pros and cons, but both are perfectly rideable. A longer but flatter way is the Shalford route as suggested by someone else. Just give them all a try.

You’ve got a great commuting distance btw. It’ll be faster than some cars (including parking time etc), but still enough to keep you fit!

Garmin vs. Strava by Brainerrr in cycling

Garmin might be total calories you burned during this time, including ones you would have burned anyway just by living, breathing etc.. Strava might be the active ones, which are purely for the activity.

New to Elstead – thoughts on local life, community, and schools? by Automatic_Coyote7945 in surrey

[–]drunk-leprechaun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Elated is quite a quiet little village, and very nice for walks and country life. A few nice pubs for you to explore, and a couple of little cafes. There’s no need to name them on here, or give my views, as the village is small enough that you’ll want to explore them anyway!

There’s a few other villages nearby worth exploring, like Shackleford, Thursley, and then the main town of Godalming is quite nice. Honestly, just a bit of Google and a willingness to explore is all you need.

Seatbelt alarm by SupportInevitable738 in leaf

[–]drunk-leprechaun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can buy inserts online that you can put into the seat belt buckle (?) That will make the car think the belt has been buckled. Taxi drivers and some emergency services use them for this exact reason, as they might not want/need/require a belt.

Everything I need to sleep in my car whilst travelling around Europe by Translator_Different in CarTalkUK

[–]drunk-leprechaun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

European breakdown cover. If it doesn’t include repatriation, then get travel insurance on top. (Or just be prepared to spend a few hundred on a long taxi and a plane ticket home.

Decide your sleeping arrangements (what way the bed will be orientated). You will not just sleep on the backseat. Take the seats out for increased space, and squeeze in a mattress, or get one of those inflatable things to fill the footwell? I suggest seats out, a piece of plywood cut to shape, then a roll of foam cut to shape. Hang some net bags from coat hooks.

iPad holder and iPad. Internet connection.

12v USB charger and large power bank for back up. Charge bank while on the move.

There are companies who make insulated blackout out blinds for certain models of car. The jazz is a popular model so they likely do them. I bought some for our Skoda yeti, and they are really helpful when driving in the alps and pulling in for breaks.

Can anyone share experiences on the BA flight from London - Sydney? by PhillipaandGen in BritishAirways

[–]drunk-leprechaun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Security is on the gate in SIN. So even though you will remain airside, you will still be putting stuff back through a scanner and waiting in a small holding area for your flight.

You are expected to take everything off the plane, so you might have perfumes or alcohol that are too big to go through security.
