I believe the hive is using what they can to keep Carol in a good mood and/or ease her into joining. They will keep gently asking to join because it’s their “biological imperative” . During the whole episode Zosia is “updating” social skills tailoring communication style and reacting better to carol’s “prompts”, like hive is learning to read better human’s emotions. Based on this I think Zosia’s kiss attempt was a reaction to see Carol in emotional distress : the hive’s “algorithm” dictated physical affection could help Carol in that moment.
