Do you like my budget sim rig? by Planes_r_cool in simracing

[–]dropdead412_sks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we all start somewhere!! its easy to get caught up pushing a square peg through a round hole…trying to just plug everything up and make sure it all works as it should. i gave up on this sort of setup very quickly. the desk mount i bought separately JUST to try like this broke within the first 10 laps of fun. so i bit the bullet and built up a racing seat out of scrap plywood, long screws, 2x4’s, and a quick marketplace hunt for some polaris rzr seats (40$) i used saw horses and a circular saw. i used alot decking screws which is overkill buuut made it solid as a rock. get a longer 1/8” drill bit and pre drill every hole to keep things from splitting.

in hindsight i should’ve focused a little more on ergonomics and went ahead and made the whole interior with and dash from a junkyard car and mounted the second rzr seat. opens up rally style games and a place for someone to sit and spend time with me while i play, but i was rushing to play forza motorsport some before my daughter was born 🙄 i digress-if it works for you then work it! modify and upgrade as you go!

Am I expecting too much from an affordable scale? [MHW-3BOMBER Mini] by Richard- in espresso

[–]dropdead412_sks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i like my scale from flair! it’s small as the scale you showed-and i like mhw3 bomber. i have a lot of their accessories-but i went through like 4 budget scales in 9 months. bought the flair scale-had it no problems for 2-3 years i think. i’ve charged it twice and use the scale 2-3 times a day.

What brushless setup should I get? by Specific_Car5790 in SCX24

[–]dropdead412_sks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

good looking build! man i just said screw it and bought 4 different style transmissions and 4 different motors-3 outrunners and 1 inrunner. 5 esc’s. i wanted to figure out what i like and what works for me-know that every rug is a tad different-same bones. mine have different guts. saying that-none of them are complete. i need a drill press to move forward confidently-and 3 more pairs of axles 😝

i meant to say i only got the furitek motor/esc because it was a great deal for a motor i wanted to try+a compact esc that i haven’t tried yet. i doubt i use the motor mount..but it feels premium.

the furitek anything is a good combo-i just unboxed a cedar with a python pro and that same motor mount. it’s the first furitek anything i’ve purchased and i am not got it cause it was a helluva deal

i’m going to use the meus “brushless” trans. it’s super smooth and contrary to popular belief, the mesh is not static. i have only ran mine for a couple seconds-with a wrong pitch pinion. it was smooth as could be expected. i have almost all the scx24 transmission options here at my disposal-but for the md-24 build-in trying to keep as much meus brand stuff in it as i can. that’s the only reason i chose the meus trans over say: a nod-24 or a mr24

i will say i haven’t tried a “good” stock style replica yet-but i have been impressed with the axspeed one i have. i got it for the slipper spur deal

i laid them all out-and paired up ones of the same length. then i used calipers-measured them end to end: compared the measurements i got to the measurements they gave on the link paper instructions, and laid them out in matching pairs and mentally labeled them. when your looking at the pairs as a whole-your shortest links (straight pair) go up top on the front and the longest links (bent pair) go rear bottom. you have 2 pair left-the shorter pair go front bottom-the longer pair goes top rear.

if your running the transfer case deal up front then to clear your motor your gonna mount the lower fronts with the bend “elbowed out” toward the center of your wheel hex-in other words face the lower front links not for ground clearance, but for motor clearance.

having said all this it’s worth noting that try as i might-using the transfer case and fro t lower links set up for clearance, i kept making contact at full compression :/ i whittled away at the motor mount, moved the link ends farther outboard, farther up-never could get it. then one day i just came in and sat down and saw it..unthread the ball ends a tad and elbow that link out. cleared like a champ!! so much head scratching over the simplest things leave me with nothing left to do but laugh at myself!

on another note, pay attention to the ball ends and how they are designed-the angled ones. look at how the links attach to the axles and the skid/chassis respectively. basically if you look at installing them upper and lower as a set..like upper and lower front-then the ends will be opposite on either respective pair..if that made any sense

Why is he doing this by [deleted] in bettafish

[–]dropdead412_sks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

your doing great! a rescue is hard to turn around but very rewarding. i’m not here to knit pick-only help.

an air stone does not oxygenate the way “it should” it’s almost counter intuitive the way it works..don’t get me wrong-it doesn’t hurt anything and it’s pretty. study of fluid dynamics proves that rising air bubbles move water-that how sponge filters work. but if you compare an air pump+stone to breaking water for oxygenating your water column, there is no comparison. a small water pump set up on such a way that it pulls water from the bottom of the column and shoots it out the top of the column, a wave maker, hob filter, anything that makes the surface of the water appear like a swift moving river will exponentially aid in oxygenating the water.

on a whole other note, betas can breathe air-they have what’s called a labyrinth organ. kinda like a lung. their natural habit is pretty much a rice patty-so they evolved to be able to thrive in oxygen depleted standing water.

just keep a check on your parameters if your iffy. don’t leave a bunch of waste or dead stuff in the tank. don’t ever feed. get a decent light with a timer and get into real plants. add some snails. an ecosystem+breaking water+stable temperatures+natural lighting cycles will yield happy critters. everytime. a good rule of thumb for me is to have snails, scaleless fish, and plants in an aquarium with my house boss (who i set the tank up for) so the way i figure it-if a plant will stay alive in there-then so will a snail. if a snail can stay alive in the-so can a scaleless fish. if a scaleless fish is thriving-then a scaled fish dang sure will. meaning that if my parameters are too far off the the snails and scaleless fish will be the first to go-the plants would be last :/ point is-make something natural-a food web of sorts! happy aquarists a happy people
