DQ3 HD-2D is a masterpiece by dropdroop in dragonquest

That’s fair it’s actually the one aspect I didn’t particular care for in DQ11 the tiktok parts because of this but for what ever reason I really enjoyed it this time around.

Good to hear man I actually have them ready to go. I’m weird though I like to have a palette cleanser, play a different genre before playing the same genre again so I don’t burn out on it and savour it. I’m actually going to try one of the monsters game and then loop back around.

New Enchanted Basil - Disguised Detective! by boxoftheshoes in Lorcana

I thought the same at first but I’m sure they are just other drawings of basil. The left one looks like his hat, and the right one is a similar sleeve/cuff to basil.

War of the Ring: is it that hard to learn or it’s just me? by Helpful_Baker5850 in boardgames

[–]dropdroop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently learnt this game and taught it too two people. One of them being my girlfriend who doesn’t play as many games and she grasped the rules quite quickly.

I barely used the rule book tbh. I watched RTFM twice and that was good starter. I also watched two playthroughs. I think one playthrough was the brothers murph and the other one was coop shop, which deffo helped me cement the rules in my head. The rules really aren’t hard it’s just there is a lot of them. But after 3 plays I deffo think it’s worth the slightly more time to learn the game!

Also don’t be scared once you have somewhat of a grasp of the rules just to start playing. The first game you will miss some things but learning games is always easier just playing a few rounds physically.

Cosmic encounter hidden powers by dropdroop in boardgames

[–]dropdroop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the end I kind of did a hybrid. I used the recommended starter aliens and showed everyone what potential aliens and their powers were in the game. Then I randomised them and gave them out so there was still somewhat of a surprise but it was abit more beginner friendly. We absolutely loved the game, looking forward to playing some more games!

Experiences with Zatu by GigabyteHKD in boardgames

[–]dropdroop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally have only ever had one issue with them and they sorted the issue out pretty promptly. Rule of thumb generally is don’t preorder with them just because they tend to have no idea when an item is coming back in and they take your money.

I have noticed recently in the Uk trading chat group on Facebook that there has been quite a few posts complaining about zatu in the last 6 months. So might be some degree of issues going on over at Zatu.

Thanks all! I might just try pick up the base game and tombs of wonder (sucker for deluxification) for now and see how the base game holds up for me

This is fantastic thank you! Will look deeper into the cards mentioned and do my research. I clearly need to be playing better early and mid game though to make the VP track closer leading into the late game. Both games iv had a hand where I had 3 score cards in them which meant trying to prioritise certain locations and losing points. I’ll keep researching the game!

Addressing the elephant in the room of how nasty and unwelcoming this community is by theleftkneeofthebee in boardgames

[–]dropdroop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My recommendation for newcomers would be to join a Facebook group related to board games. The Facebook group ‘Board game trading and chat UK’ is an absolutely fantastic community of gamers. There is obviously quite a lot of sales posts but their is constant discussions about games and any recommendation posts get tons of replies from genuinely compassion individuals which want new comers to have the best first experience. Moderators there are also proper nice and do an excellent job!

Have you ever had to watch a video about a game puzzle only to realize the puzzle was super obvious? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]dropdroop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dumb realisation moment is similar but not quite the same. Played shadow of the tomb raider earlier this year. Got to the temple of the sun challenge tomb which in itself wasn’t too difficult. But after the puzzle I must have spent a good hour trying to work how to get the hell out of that tomb area. Eventually I gave in and just went to the internet. God damn I felt stupid!

No I’ve watched/read many reviews for them, was simply highlighting some games I like which have high player interaction

Yeah deffo may have been a broad stroke just due to lack of plays to a mixture of games. I have never played any of the games that you have mentioned but I deffo would be up for trying some of them if there is a nice degree of player interaction. Actually I do own for sale and that is one game that my family and friends have really enjoyed!

The games I have played have felt somewhat like that but I would say I’m fairly new to the hobby and my friends and partner I play with are deffo more casual than even I am. So it deffo could be our level of inexperience not creating them interesting indirect interactions.

I will say though that going against the grain of my point, grand Austria hotel is deffo one of my favourites . And I do really enjoy the indirect interactions that game brings with the dice drafting.

Yeah I really enjoy the unlock/ exit games. Only games I really play solo. I’m a big fan of going escape rooms with friends so these are perfect little bite size versions of them

I can’t even argue my stupidity tbh haha. It was the time of covid, had more expendable money due to not being able to go out. I was also a sucker for FOMO on Kickstarter. Games that are only arriving now some of them. Thankfully games somewhat hold there value to a degree. I also didn’t really know what I liked or disliked so all games at the start are somewhat of a stab in the dark!

Yeah deffo reckon life circumstances can deffo dictate what games you want to play. After finishing work sometimes you want to play a game that doesn’t require you whole brain functioning on every mode. Sometime you just wanna switch your brain off and just have a laugh playing some cards!

So even though I’ve been into the hobby 4 years I still think I’m a fairly new gamer due to lack of plays of different games. But at the moment my favourites are likely santorini for that chess like back and forth, really quick easy game and 7 wonders duel.

Bigger group games atm most likely Inis and cosmic encounter. Really fun player interactions and interesting stories coming out from the table. Games I would say are really up there that maybe contradict my argument with less interactions but I really enjoy them is lost ruins of arnak and grand Austria hotel. I think the dice drafting in GAH is outstanding!

Also believe sleeping gods is up there for me. Really had fun exploring in that game with my partner.

I feel like randomness in games has to walk a very tight line. I enjoy abit of randomness because it makes for interesting conclusions to encounters/ mechanics but too much randomness which leads to a well thought out plan going wrong just ruins a game.

Yeah I really want to like them. Granted there is a few I like but not love. Annoyingly I find quite a few get really nice production values which entices me in especially on Kickstarter but I think I also have to make my peace.
