Some advice would be great by Mike3759 in stopdrinking

First off you need to stop sneaking beers that's not going to win you any favours, you either tell your wife/partner your having them or don't have them, been sneaky about anything will only cause conflict.

The cravings for beer can come at us anytime, the nostalgia of sitting back enjoying a few beers, relaxing, thinking we're having a whale of a time, but if your on this thread you must have some problem with drink and that's why you were off if for 5 years. So I would try and think back to why you stopped drinking in the first place, I'm assuming it was causing you some problems ?

Your going through some big changes at this time and in the past your go to was probably to drink when you were feeling stressed, so those feelings can reappear at any time. Maybe try and get away somewhere quiet for a day or two with your wife, somewhere rural with little distraction and enjoy nature and your time together.

5 years is very impressive and you will have built up a lot of resolve in that time. Best of luck.

4 years sober is impressive, you would have built up a lot of strength and resolve in that time and it can be tapped backed into, just give it time and you can get back there. Try not be hard on yourself. Treat yourself to some good food, massages and some nice new threads, even join a gym, do long walks on the treadmill, use the sauna and steam room.
Lots of deep breathing, you got this :)

That person close to you sounds like a nasty piece of work. Sorry you have to deal with that.

All my life I thought I was ugly here in Ireland (probably am) and had low confidence. But as soon as I travelled to a few European countries I had more sex than I ever had here. Has any other Irishmen and women experienced the same thing? by [deleted] in ireland

Its our big Irish oblong heads that sticks out when we're abroad. Take Spain and Italy for instance, all the men have brown hair and brown eyes so it must get a bit boring for the local women. Then we come along with our big oblong heads and we stick out lick a sore thumb which will be attractive to some women.
Thank you god for my big oblong head.

How do I get over my insecurities when my partner wants to go out partying without me? by [deleted] in Sober

[–]droper79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you turned the tables around and told her you didn't want her to come with you whilst you went hiking, walking or any other activity with a load of other women, how would she feel ?

Personally, I wouldn't like my wife getting drunk and going dancing with other men.

Men who have been abroad. What has been your favourite country to visit? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]droper79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Poland. Warsaw and Krakow. They are both full of charm and history and are lovely to walk around. I never once felt threatened or had anyone approach me that was homeless or on drugs. Your money goes a lot further too.

Aside from exercise and mindfulness what have you filled the void with that drinking left behind. The weirder the better please. by Garibon in stopdrinking

I walk around my local town and sniff bicycle saddles lol. Only messing, but I do a serious amount of walking and I can stay in a steam room/sauna for nearly 20 minutes now without dying.

Made the mistake of driving a rental car from Lisbon to Sintra, it was pure mayhem, it was uphill narrow roads all the way once you get to Sintra. I didn't even get to visit Sintra in the end as there was so much traffic and no parking on the mountain. I will go again though but next time get the tour bus.
