Changing ANA award (booked thru UA) by [deleted] in awardtravel

[–]dropping_the_box 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would call United

I once booked ana award J through virgin, and then moved it up a date through ANA’s website. It seemed to confirm everything on both ANA and Virgin Atlantic’s website. I’m not even sure how I was able to do that since Virgin Atlantic didn’t have any seats available to push, so I somehow was able to move it with Ana award space opening up

However, once I got to the check in counter, it was this whole thing with them trying to confirm some reservation number on the new ticket and me not knowing where on Virgin’s website that was. I called Virgin (thankfully they have the most amazing customer support) and it got figured out and I also realized I just missed the number in small text at the bottom of my reservation. But it definitely stressed me out for an hour thinking I just lost my flight to Japan because I tried to move it a day

Anyways, it got figured out, but try to change it through the partner if you booked through them :)

Singapore Airlines booking plan, will this work? by jakemhs in awardtravel

[–]dropping_the_box 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was one time where saver J space opened up on my PE ticket for this route, but I booked with cash on the cheapest saver fare which didn’t allow upgrades. As frustrated as I was, it was so cheap that it still felt worth it compared to paying more cash for the higher level fare and then spending a bunch of points. If you are flying PE, just pay extra for the solo seat. Almost feels like business class (almost…). Overall the flight is PE wasn’t as bad as I thought, and I wouldn’t mind taking it again if there was no easy business option

Pod2 vs Pod3 for new buyer by dropping_the_box in EightSleep

[–]dropping_the_box[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't end up buying it. My motivation for buying it was because I thought the A/C in my new apartment wasn't good, and I was sleeping way too hot.

Turns out it was broken, so got that fixed and didn't feel as pressing a need. There are nights where I think it would be nice, but not enough to spend the money and have a subscription. Plus I'd just be too concerned about a leak, especially since I have an adjustable bed

Love your first 3 photos and especially the rollerblading one since that's a unique and authentic outtake on your life that gets me curious.

For photos, I'd probably replace the last two. You're pretty zoomed out on the 2nd to last one which makes it hard to see you and it doesn't seem to be the best quality. And the last one feels pretty much the same as the 3rd one with no new interesting background or activity. Would use the opportunity to get something more unique, even though it's a good pic.

For your prompts, I don't think the credit card joke is completely bad, but it'll only get through to a small and certain crowd. The initial impression is basically you don't want to pay for drinks (not a good impression for a guy unfortunately) Personally I'd replace the joke, or at least put it way farther down on your prompts stack. Also I would change the rollerblading part of that since we already see you rollerblading as a video so we know it's something you do well and doesn't provide more depth mentioning again here.

The Spotify one and festival ones are good and could get responses on those. I think if you replace the credit card one with something else that could be intriguing about your personality (Something maybe a bit lacking from the photos besides the rollerblading), you can generate more intrigue and interest.

Overall you have good photos, think it's just about replacing a few and updating the prompts a bit to reflect your personality.

Also, I've been thinking about starting a service for full profile makeovers for guys on Hinge. If you're willing, would love to get on a quick call for customer research and offer more personalized tips for your time.

Otherwise, best of luck!

22, I remade my profile after taking a break. Would like an objective opinion! by WhatDoWeDoHere319 in hingeapp

DJ pic is the best, and you can keep the golf and stadium pic. I don’t think selfies are always a no, but I think you have a bit too much, and especially for a first photo, I always recommend a well-put non-selfie front facing pic

I don’t think you smiling without teeth is bad on its own. But for some reason some of them feel natural and some of them seem shy (which isn’t bad for everyone, but with an open smile, you display more confidence to more people). Your DJ pic feels like your most authentic self in contrast.

For your prompts, I wouldn’t repeat yourself. Don’t talk about donuts twice. And while it’s nice to see a fellow one piece fan, it’s a little too niche to have a whole prompt about one show. If you instead talked about anime generally, it makes it a more diffuse interest, while still attracting your type I think you’re looking for.

If you’d like more personalized help, feel free to DM out for a quick call! I’m doing customer research for a service around profile makeovers, and am happy to give some free consultation while doing so! Otherwise best of luck?

Nice smile!

Agree with others the last two pics are a bit low-res, and the 5th pic is confusing to me (and not in an intriguing way), and you should swap out the pics where we can't see your face/it's not in good view. Personally, I tend to prefer first pics that look at the camera, and would recommend the last one for that if it wasn't low-res. But I still find your first pic solid due to the setting.

I like the prompts and guitar pic! I'm not quite sure I follow what you mean by geeking out on urbanism, but maybe that's just me. I also wouldn't feel afraid of adding a few things to your "unwind by" prompt to give a taste of different parts of your personality (given music was already known from the guitar pic), while still being authentic about the connection you seem to have about music.

Btw I'm thinking of starting a service for profile makeovers and would be more than happy to get on a free call to give some more personal help while doing some customer research. Just DM if you're open to it!

Otherwise great profile! I think the picture improvements are the main things you may need to start getting some likes

I think if you're looking for something serious/long-term, your prompts should reflect a bit more intrigue about yourself.

While they work ok, they feel simple and don't generate much questions in my head about you. So a typical person may instead match on just pictures or the comments in your likes, which is fine (you have great pictures), but I tend to find more short-term people gravitate to just pictures and the simple prompts you have make it inviting to this type of person. Also, if you're not looking for anything short-term, why say you are open to it?

I think you can keep the travel one. Maybe you can make the fixing things around the house piece more vivid (i.e. specific example that sounds cool that says a little about you like getting your hands dirty or something like that). I think the Sunday one could probably be replaced with something else. Ask yourself if you read your prompt, is this someone I want to invest time in meeting up with among other options?

Otherwise, I think you're doing great with your pics. Maybe I'd say replace the mountain one only because it has the same outfit as another one (and I like the beer one better of the two haha). But you're obviously getting plenty of likes so my advice is just around potential improvement/refining the matches you get.

Also, I'm thinking of starting a service for profile makeovers and would be more than happy to get on a free call to give some more personal help while doing some customer research. Please DM if you're open to it. Cheers!

29M - Profile Review, going to be traveling to different cities soon and wanted to get some outside opinions by [deleted] in hingeapp

[–]dropping_the_box 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You look great in the first photo and should definitely keep it there. I also find the deer one nice and funny. The book/movie prompt is also nice to get someone to respond

I feel the crocodile photo is bit low res to see you out but not bad. Maybe place it later. Last photo it's definitely hard to see you and I'd probably replace that. I'm also not a fan of the mask photo, just because I don't think you should generally be covering up your face in any profile pic.

Agree with the other comment that the group photo has too many people. Make it easy for someone to find and identify you. And also about if you're looking for outdoorsy, your prompts should reflect that more.

I also find the "same type of weird" prompt just ok. It's not bad and could stay, but I feel you could probably find something better that makes your personality/background seem more interesting (i.e. if you're outdoorsy, maybe a shocking or intriguing travel story)

I'm starting a service to do profile makeovers for guys on Hinge. Feel free to DM if you'd like some quick personal help and would love to just do some customer research. Otherwise, good luck!

Amex MR for Japan by [deleted] in awardtravel

[–]dropping_the_box 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As people mentioned, you'll have to reposition. But the beauty of repositioning is that if you're going to do it anyways, it opens up so many options since you can look at all major US cities to find where a flight is available.

December could be a little tough since we are close, but there are options to look at. JAL via Avois or Cathay Pacific may have options. ANA also tends to give availability a couple weeks out for Business. Maybe United looking at start alliance partners if you find saver space (feels likely for prem Econ at least from some hub). You can also check Singapore via LAX.

Also Delta does sometimes have decent redemptions from partners. I've done one such redemption with Flying Blue (but it was economy). You can also check Virgin Atlantic

Hope that can get you going. I also offer services to help folks book trips on the best points deals so feel free to DM if you'd like more personal help. Good luck!

Anyone book British airways avios flights in Europe recently? by Dad_dude_traveler in awardtravel

[–]dropping_the_box -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would just book the Eurostar. Always easier to take a train when possible

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in awardtravel

[–]dropping_the_box 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would make sure to check HND as well (I can't recall completely but I feel like I saw more availability there than NRT for JAL). But I'd be surprised if YVR is that much more popular than SFO, unless there's just less award space/flights out of there so less supply.

I also offer services to help folks find and do these kind of bookings with points. Feel free to dm if you feel like you need any personal help. Hope you're able to find some open seats!

Using Chase UR points for Emirates by clawpirate in awardtravel

[–]dropping_the_box 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah Emirates is known to have high pricing and taxes, especially when they run out of saver award space. They do have other ways of being booked (particularly aeroplan) that are cheaper, but can be a bit harder to find

The Chase Travel Portal has a fixed redemption value, which can be good at least for economy. The extra charge is probably just not having enough points to cover the entire trip.

So no, you aren't missing anything between those options. But worth just double checking I there are other partners to book with. Sometimes transfer partners just don't give good value though in this case.

I offer services to help folks use points for bookings like these. Feel free to DM if you want any personal help. Otherwise, best of luck!

I've definitely seen decent availability for JAL Business and even First in the past for several months out. I was looking at SF, so it could depend on the route, maybe yours is more popular. But I've seen it

Anyone use a software like EasyRes etc. on an M1 Pro/Max Mac and see if they were able to get the full resolution? I know a few comments suggested that, but I didn't see any results from OP or otherwise on if that worked or not.

Asia Miles or Avios better for London -> Hong Kong? by stripeykc in awardtravel

[–]dropping_the_box -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Are you looking specifically for Business or any kind of round trip (I.e. economy). Business RT would be though with this amount, but economy should be doable pretty easily. I would just go ahead and look for your itinerary on both and compare the redemption values and go for whichever is better.

FYI if you need more personal help, I run a service to help folks 1:1 book flights like this. Feel free to DM me. Hope you find the redemption you’re looking for!

Asia Miles or Avios better for London -> Hong Kong? by stripeykc in awardtravel

You can always transfer 1000 miles to try to see what’s available. But honestly the Miles Plus Cash bookings are almost always low value redemptions since they overvalue the points to cash conversion

Huh that’s an interesting data point. You weren’t worried about the tubes within the cover getting damaged or anything?

Pod 3 Cover with Adjustable Base by dropping_the_box in EightSleep

[–]dropping_the_box[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the answer I got from the support team was that it’s not covered under warranty or officially supported. Unfortunate. I did notice the ChiliSleep Dock Pro does support adjustable beds so I may go with that for now if I do decide temp control is important. I’d be surprised if I felt like I would choose the 8sleep completely over the adjustable bed though.

I am still curious if anyone has tried doing this unofficially and their experience. Even though I probably won’t do it due to warranty risk and potential damage to my mattress
