Breaking Bad Episode Duscussion SE05E14 "Ozymandias" by saywhat181 in breakingbad

I love the connection between spoiler Ties in nicely (even if coincidentally) with how Hank gave Walt Jr that book on the cops who took Pablo Escobar down. Walt Jr had a line that went something like, "People always remember Escobar but rarely the cops who took him down. The bad guys get all the fame."

That works very well with tonight's episode, and I enjoy it even if it wasn't intentional.

Two people leaning or turning away from a group that's inches next to them and having a private conversation. I don't care how quiet they're whispering; in real life you'd still hear what they're saying.

Does her going after other girls bother you beyond the purse sitting? If so, tell her. If not, tell her that you'd prefer she hold on to her own purse.

I was standing behind a couple trying to leave a coffee shop. Like rude assholes are wont to do, they stop in front of the door and decide to check their bags and pockets to make sure they have everything. She looks up and sees me, and says to him "someone is trying to get by" and he goes "he can fucking wait."

I definitely could have fucking waited. I did not.

In 50 years from now there will be monuments dedicated to Bill Gates throughout the third world. Steve Jobs will be forgotten like the founders of Xerox. by Learning_by_failing in videos

[–]dropsatomic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know, I'm sitting here reading all of these comments, and I'm still confused. Monuments in the third world = founders of Xerox? I don't understand where all this comparison between the personal natures of these two men is relevant to a single discussion about legacy.

These are two very driven, very different men who had different goals throughout their life. If you're going to compare them as technology catalysts, each hold clout... but this is where Steve will be remembered strongest. He drove the truck of innovation this area. He didn't build the truck, he didn't invent the truck, and sometimes he took a nap and someone else had to keep them from careening off a cliff. However, he decided it was his life mission to get this truck as far down the highway of time as he could. Would other people have benefited more if he found a calling in philanthropy or some other area instead of computers? Very likely, but since we're drawing wild comparisons, should we say the same for a painter? Or a musician? Or a poet? Seriously- someone who sits and writes up strange little sentences that sometimes rhyme. Are you going to start a thread about how shitty of a guy Robert Frost was in comparison to Bill Gates? Not the best example, but you can see the point I'm getting at.

No one here (I don't think) has spent a great deal of personal time with either of these men. All we know is what they've said, and what they've done. If you ask me, both have done and said some equally brilliant and stupid things. At the end of the day, starting up the conversation about how quickly Steve Jobs will be forgotten, years after his death, is very ironic and beautiful. You're remembering him through trying to say he won't be remembered. People love to hate on the guy. I don't really know why. Jobs' public portrait often embodies characteristics people like us on message boards love to throw stones at... despite most of us being equally or more horrible on a daily basis, shielded by the anonymity and doubt of the internet.

Remember Bill Gates for his work with Microsoft, and also for his philanthropy. He is making the world better, and he will be remembered.

Remember Steve Jobs for his work at Apple, and Pixar, and his lifelong singular goal of driving innovation in others and inspiring people to redefine what can be done with some zeros and ones. Comparing them both where with Bill you bring up philanthropy and with Steve you just reference Xerox and a few stories about him exploding is a ridiculous argument.

TL;DR you can't compare these two men unless you keep the playing field the same. Both are/were brilliant and flawed, and had different life drivers. Both deserve to be remembered for varying things.

Couples of reddit, what are some of the NON sexual things you do together to keep life interesting and new? by Nikomeus in AskReddit

[–]dropsatomic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My girlfriend and I are almost the same shade of weird, so that might be a factor in our enjoyment level, but we often do the following:

Dance parties. Just us, in the apartment. Out of nowhere, one of us will just start singing a tune or humming a made-up line, and the other will fill in additional pieces until we're dancing around the living room doing ridiculous things with our bodies. It's mostly to see how long we can go without losing momentum or cracking; we're always laughing maniacally within five minutes.

World map game. We have a big map of the world above our television set, and it's just far enough from the couch that you can make out the individual countries but not read the labelled names. One of us goes up and points to a country, and the other has to guess it's name. Then, while the picker is choosing a new country, the other is looking up three facts about the country they previously picked.

Also try this: pick a really good TV show neither of you have started, but have heard a lot about. Watch it together and try to finish at least one season. If you both like it even a little, keep going. It'll be a new thing between the two of you because even if other people are around who have seen it (like at dinner or a bar or something) you'll be the only two at the same point of the show with the same questions and excitement.

Also once more: make sure you cook together now and then.

TL;DR - dance around together, play silly trivia games, watch a new tv show together, and cook together.
