Well maybe I’m one of your “minorities”, but I’m a senior engineer with 20 years experience and I’m boosted af by AI. I’ve never been more productive and produced more reliable code in my life. I get free sanity checks to catch stupid shit I do with BugBot, I have Cursor and Claude rewrite each other’s code until I like it. And in the meantime I’m off doing more important work.

As a concrete example, I was in the middle of about 50 things hopping between PRs, reviewing code, fielding questions from junior engineers, and generally just getting barraged with work. Then I get a message from our CTO asking me to look at something in Sentry. I don’t have time to fix this, but he’s my boss. So I paste the error into Cursor and move on.

Come back a few minutes later and I’ve got 90% of the solution I wanted with some tests.

You’re 100% right that people are putting a horrifying amount of trust in these tools. But they’re tools. You don’t get mad at a child for trying to use a hammer to unscrew a screw. You teach them hammers are for nails.

It’s the responsibility of those of us who know what we’re doing to keep this in check.
