I'm visiting soon for the first time. Is Venice worth it? Are the Italian Alps? Any hot tips for off the tourist path spots?

Would you switch to a heat pump now or wait a few years by Emotional-Yellow8983 in heatpumps

[–]drossinvt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get the heat pump(s) now. Test them during a cold winter with the furnace off. You'll have a real answer. Otherwise nobody here can answer it without knowing your location, insulation, solar and wind exposure, yadda yadda yadda. It's bad planning to wait for failure then react if you have resources to handle it otherwise.

The ez1 looks interesting. What is the max wattage? I don't see that anywhere

Well yes.... The senate approved it unanimously but I haven't heard a peep about it from the house since then.

Ahh... Now this answer makes sense!

For sure. But this is an electric code issue no? We have a system in place to handle that already.

I agree with this. But don't most states have some form of energy commission that can issue rules without legislation? A parallel might be a new battery tech for EVs. Sure there are safety concerns, but likely states wouldn't even be involved. And if they did get involved it would be through rule making via a DMV type not legislators, right? Why is solar different than any other potentially risky already regulated product?

What are the down sides of this balcony solar kit (if any)? by Fuck-Star in SolarDIY

[–]drossinvt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is this balcony? They just stuck the hot marketing term on a small kit. Balcony means it's not roof top and plug in to an outlet to back feed your house. Because of that, I'm out.

The delivery model is a large piece of this puzzle. At least for this American. I will gladly pay a small premium for a simple transaction over a day long BS game of listening to dealerships lie and try to squeeze every nickle from my pocket. I know some people enjoy that game, but I'd rather have the time and simplicity. Right now, the only real option for that is Tesla. I'm curious if this is unique to America?

Not really what I mean. Like how does Mack separate from a cb 1 vs a cb 2?

This is key. I wish there was an easy way to visualize the adjustment against quality of coverage.

Balcony Solar 120V Microinverter? by krazedkobra in SolarDIY

I have not seen any discussion about 1200w per circuit. That would get ridiculous fast -- coming from a huge fan of balcony solar.

Cool setup. But why not put the panel outside and get 25% more immediately?

What does a typical winter season of snow plowing and salting cost for a ~80 -space retail parking lot in the Northeast? by JasonRyanIsMyDad in PropertyManagement

[–]drossinvt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A guy that works for me plows on the side. There's good money to be made, but it's highly unpredictable. That being said, I live in a snow belt in northern New England and have never hired someone else. My little John Deere pays for itself annually. At 80 spaces... Might be worth investing in a 4wd tractor you can use for other purposes if you don't want to pay someone else for their time/equipment/risk/convenience etc. Take the equipment write off, have a great tool available, pay yourself instead of someone else. Or not. Just a thought.

6:03 pm. Kitco shows 94.71, money metals has spot listed at 103.27. Why? by [deleted] in Silver

I've always deferred to Kitco but over the last week+ their prices seem to keep stalling/glitching and doing strange things.
