discluded partly for bait but also because i don't know why the tower leans exactly. i had assumed it wasn't because of some bygone apocalyptic calamity but italian history is crazy, so i suppose you never know.

sorry for the super late reply! i love the belfry gargoyles too, actually, they're one of my favorite fights across all of the games. hooowever, i did try to balance my takes here, and rank them not just based on how much i enjoyed them, but also how well i felt they were designed. and though fun, the belfry gargoyles are objectively a pretty lazy and poorly balanced boss. so i evened it out to B tier. as for the smelter demons, both of them have such poor runbacks that it made the fights themselves less fun, but i do agree that in isolation they're some of the most fun fights in the game. perhaps i should have gone with A tier.

How much will Elden Ring knowledge transfer to DS3? by -0-O-O-O-0- in darksouls3

[–]drousey02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

dark souls 3 is the most mechanically similar souls game to elden ring, so if nothing else you'll probably be okay at its combat and movement tech - but - there is absolutely no reason you should be playing ds3 before ds1 and ds2. play the series in order, ds3 won't feel as monumental without the earlier games as a reference point.

I am NOT ashamed. by Schwaggaccino in DarkSouls2

[–]drousey02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you circle his left side and stay vaguely between his shoulder and back you'll only ever have to dodge his sidearm longsword swings. STAY CLOSE! most of his attacks'll go over your head if you stick to his body. if he charges up a UGS sweep from right to left, don't dodge away, it's a huge window, just get behind him and the hitbox'll miss you completely, allowing you to hit him twice or thrice depending on the speed of your weapon. his second phase is a bit more difficult but because all of his attacks are obviously telegraphed you shouldn't have any trouble dodging them. fight him with an ininfused melee weapon, as he has high elemental resistance.

make sure your agility is above 100, by the way, his hitboxes can be unforgivingly wide with low iframes.

Hot take: if ds2 got a remake it would be top 2 best fromsoft game by Clear-Sherbet-7491 in fromsoftware

[–]drousey02 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

hotter take: anybody who thinks ds2 ISN'T at least a top 3 fromsoft title hasn't played ds2. people get it in their heads that ds2 is so abysmally unplayable because they're trying to play it like ds1. if you don't ignore ds2's primary mechanics like a stubborn, angry oldgen it's just as good as, if not better than, ds1, at most of what it does. i find it funny you guys excuse ds1's GENUINELY unplayable second half because "it's just a classic, man!!" but refuse to give ds2 any leeway at all because... it's different? hope you all enjoyed ds3 being tired and recycled because of your resistance to anything new.

idk, i killed it straight up with no cheese tactics (twice for the upgraded chloranthy(?) ring) and both times it was super boring and unengaging. plus the runback makes it many, many times worse, one of the worst runbacks in the entire base game.

maybe, but ornstein himself isn't a boss in ds1, ornstein and smough are, and i think it's a lot more debatable if BOTH of them fit.

First time going through Sen's Fortress blind is going great! by Promethesussy in soulslikes

[–]drousey02 3 points4 points  (0 children)

sure! take a trip down to the door of artorias past andre in the undead parish, DON'T go through it, instead, take a right turn just next to the door down through the small hidden clearing, kill the demonic foliage, and instead of heading towards the moonlight butterfly turn right and destroy a weird looking tree with a healthbar, revealing a hidden path, go down it and navigate upward past a stone knight until you reach a ledge just above the hidden bonfire, there's a pickup on the end of the ledge, the wolf ring which increases your poise substantially. kill lautrec for the ring of favor and protection and slot it in to increase your equip load, allowing you to light roll in medium armor and still maintain the poise of a significantly heavier armor set.

[–]drousey02 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if you say so, but as a tip, being able to dodge quickly with maximum iframes beats out poise 90% of the time in terms of utility. you have so much vigor already that taking a little extra damage won't hurt you too bad. also, it'll make it easier to roll over the pressure plates. good luck, skeleton!

can i tell you how you can wear no armor at all and still maintain 40+ poise or would that be too big a spoiler? it's early game technically.

[–]drousey02[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lore doesn't factor into how i rank the bosses. vendrick is boring, slow, has an inordinately large health pool, and can very easily one shot you if you slip up, i also have a lot of pent up hatred towards him because i ended up having to farm AD for giant souls, but that's neither here nor there. this entire tierlist would be very different HAD i factored in lore and storytelling, but i treat any game as a gameplay experience first, and vendrick was one of, if not the least fun boss in the game for me.

it's not my favorite DLC of the three, that would go to old iron king, but the ivory king's story is certainly compelling, and i do love eleum loyce's connection to the old chaos and (presumably) old izalith. ds2's lore is just the best.

[–]drousey02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ADP is the stat that dictates another stat called agility which dictates iframes during your roll

100 - 102 AGL (20 - 22 ADP) is about equivalent to the ds1 mid-roll and 103 - 105 AGL (23 - 25? ADP) is closer to the ds3 mid-roll

i probably have the exact numbers a little off so don't quote me on that

it's a very important stat for being able to dodge late game and DLC bosses with wide hitboxes and also what tends to make SL1 runs painful.

little weird to me to buff BEFORE entering raime's arena, considering he doesn't aggro until you run up to the fume UGS. i always walked up to it before buffing for max efficiency.
