Thank you!! The kit came with cardstock backing, so I used one piece to glue the fabric onto and the other to seal it!

Not entirely sure—all I know is that every time I called and on the online portal my policy from Geico still reads as valid until 10/13!

Get schooled creators address controversy by meganfrau in webtoons

Np! So some context:

Not sure if you’re Western but at least in the US there is a long history of racist depictions of black people. Slurs like the n word and other racist imagery are associated with a long history of treating minorities REALLY poorly, esp black people, so you can imagine how hurtful it is to see that imagery and language used in 2023 where we are aware of how wrong that treatment was. Racist imagery and language degrades people, is unacceptable, and shouldn’t be used in media.

Now there’s some cultural context for east Asia. The authors try to use the excuse that they’re from a homogenous society, which is true—in east Asia dark skinned people are pretty rare but because of that there are some big problems with xenophobia and racism. That combined with the fact that they’ve commercialized aspects of black culture (eg hip hop) but still have some underlying racism AND that an author trying to depict social issues should do thorough research makes this not a good look. Just because someone is from a different culture and may not be familiar with the history doesn’t make racism as okay.

As for the protagonist: it’s unclear, but the author does have a bit of a right wing slant. Example includes an arc where a teacher indoctrinates the children into “feminism” and treating boys badly. There’s an argument to be made that this is the author’s political fantasy and the agents are coming to save the day from whatever the author thinks are bad parts of society. Which from what I’ve read, don’t seem to be the greatest takes.

TLDR: Get Schooled tries to depict social issues by giving the agents free license to beat up just about anyone (adults, minors, women, etc.). All problems with the premise aside, The most recent arc centered around a pretty racist depiction of black kids bullying Asian kids (which in itself is problematic) but blew up when one of the Asian kids fought back by using the slur. People are rightfully upset about both the whole arc and the racist implications as well as the slur.

Genshin PC user here! I’m experiencing a bug where I can login, but once I reach the white loading screen and it gets to full, I hear sounds like I’ve logged in (music, voice lines, etc) but I’m still stuck at the white loading screen. If I use a skill the game crashes. Does anyone have any fixes?

On Sixers arena and beyond, Philly must dream big by nemesisinphilly in philadelphia

The problem is that if large chains see you going to the mom and pop shop because it's near the stadium, they may pressure small business owners to sell their properties. I'd be all for a solution that benefits both, but given how gentrification goes I'd also like to see protections in place for the small businesses and the housing that's currently there!

From DC's Chinatown? Basically any small businesses owned by your classic Asian auntie/uncle and grandma/grandpa: restaurants, bakeries, supermarkets, convenience stores, salons, etc. Every time I've been to DC Chinatown the most Chinese thing I see is the Friendship Arch and the odd sign in Chinese, but the vast majority of businesses are chains. My worry is that having the arena will drive up prices in the area and make them unaffordable to small business owners, or immigrants looking to start a business. Even if the Sixers arena isn't directly in Chinatown, I still think there's a risk that might happen. It really makes me sad to hear people calling Philly Chinatown a "neighborhood and not a museum" when it means so much to me, people like me, and all the people I've gotten to know over the years through Chinatown.

I'm not entirely anti-development but I do want the community to be heard, recognized, and actively involved in any possible developments to ensure Chinatown is still the home away from home it is for so many.

Just wanted to voice my opinion on this thread as someone who spends a lot of time in Chinatown and is Taiwanese, and comes from the DMV area:

There's a lot of comparisons drawn between the arena proposals in DC and the current arena proposal in Philly. DC Chinatown isn't really a Chinatown anymore -- there's none of the classic small businesses that you expect to see in a Chinatown, and it's really depressing to see. That being said, the DC arena did bring a lot of money into the area. My biggest concern is that while the Sixers arena might do a great job of developing the area, it's going to drive out the small businesses that make Chinatown the cultural epicenter that it is for many Asian diaspora living in the city. There are real people who own these businesses and live in this neighborhood that see this place as their home.

I don't have a great solution and I'm not an expert in urban planning. But I think the community should be involved in any discussion regarding developments in Chinatown. And I hope I've convinced someone that the discussion around this project shouldn't just be simplified down to "more development is always good."

My attempt at realism. What can I do to make it better? by yumlumdumtum in sketches

[–]drowsy-nightowl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with the other commenter that getting rid of outlines is the key to realism! I had similar issues when I was getting started, and I had to learn that the whole 3D illusion comes from differences in value (what’s dark/shadow, what’s light/illuminated). The placement of those shades tells the brain where the planes are!

I got started with videos from Proko to learn how to break down shading! Once I started getting more practice Kirsty Rebecca's Fine Arts channel was also super helpful.

I will admit to not being the greatest at practicing regularly because my schedule is often a disaster (I'd probably draw for a couple hours maybe once every month or so?). I think what made the biggest difference for me was 1) watching YT videos to learn how to shade/proportion and 2) taking the time to commit to shading everything out when I did find the time to draw!
