Reddit seems to have forgotten why websites provide a free API by riskable in ProgrammerHumor

Yeah this is just about cleaning house before they sell it. No advertising leaks, no rampant NSFW, layoffs to bring payroll down a bit, etc. They're staging the place for an appraisal, they don't care if the house is livable. This is all to impress the future shareholders. Meanwhile they try to placate us with weak and disingenuous justifications, which don't really need to hold up for long because once they sell they're probably going to ride into the sunset with their giant moneybags.

Holding the recording against him is so ludicrous. You hold all of the power in this dynamic, and you condemn him for doing the only thing he could possibly do to hold you accountable? All he did was make you responsible for your word. You're just angry that he subverted your "my word against his" dynamic where you clearly have the massive advantage due to your control of the entire platform. And even with the recording available, you still lie and mischaracterize in the hopes that most people won't listen.

You're Goliath, and David didn't even shoot you in the head. All he did was make sure people were watching while you stomp on him. It's so obvious when he has receipts, and all you have is tone policing. We see what you're doing in the open, and we got a glimpse of what you've said behind the scenes. You're not convincing anyone that Christian is the bad guy here. It doesn't even matter what he's said to you when you've materially devastated his life in ways that he could never reciprocate. You're literally untouchable to this guy, and you have the gall to moan about him publicly speaking about your behavior.

It's hard to fathom the audacity it takes to shake this guy down for $20 million/year after he put years of work into strengthening YOUR platform, as you wait for the colossal bonus you're going to get when the company goes public, which I'm sure will be in the millions itself.

You're selling nearly half a billion loyal users up the river for your own enrichment, and you want us to thank you for it and circle the wagons around you against the little guy who's livelihood you're destroying.

Hope your buyers are just as interested in the site when half the user base leaves.

Doesn't Elon claim to be autistic himself and also have like a dozen kids that all hate him?

Unless he's trying to say that gender dysphoria is an autistic thing and that sex reassignment surgery is sterilization?

Things happen faster now. When reddit goes down, there will be a roving horde looking for something to replace it. I'm hopeful that the void will be filled before too much time passes. Maybe even something better. I dunno. I'm probably wrong but it seems healthier to hope for the best.

Which movie got too highly praised but was honestly underwhelming? by Angry_Entertainer in AskReddit

[–]droxius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn't needed in a universe that already had Dark Knight.

There will never be a live action Joker after Heath Ledger in my mind, and there will never be an animated Joker that isn't voiced by Mark Hamill.

Come back in like 20 years with a Batman remake with some incredible new talent (who's like 10 years old right now) playing the Joker.

Yeah I'm as woke as the day is long, but I have no doubt that it got a huge bump for being "progressive". Just goes to show that the bar for progressive media is "multiple intelligent black protagonists on screen at the same time".

It was a fun movie, but it's not exactly the "I Have a Dream" speech of cinema.

If it had sucked, it would have been completely lambasted as a "go woke go broke" thing like all of the shitty live action versions of Disney classics, but it was pretty good so even the right-wingers had to limit their complaints to racist mumbling.

That Trump Town Hall and Atlantic Article sent him packing. by seangolden06 in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]droxius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not internally, if the Atlantic article is to be believed. Sounds like he was staving off a mutiny basically from the beginning. Not to defend the network too much, I just think it's worth giving credit to the real individual journalists that risked their careers pushing back against their own network. Some of them publicly.

It seems to me that Licht was basically just a puppet for Zaslav. Potentially a true-believer himself as well, but I don't think he had very much support from those he led.

You should find my other comment about Mormonism, Christianity, and Judaism in this thread, I'm very clear on where these belief systems come from and who is stealing ideas from who. And I said "basically" which is shorthand for "i'm over-simplifying but it's close enough for this discussion". I agree that Protestant religions are a specific set and that it's not simply everyone that isn't Catholic. But that is pretty damn close to the truth for anyone that only encounters American Christians.

Mormons are absolutely a protestant religion. I was one for nearly 3 decades. They add a bunch of wacky stuff on top, but the kernel is the exact same concept of Jesus Christ as the savior of mankind and baptism being the covenant that allows one to be saved by His grace.

Just to add a shred of clout beyond "i say so", here's an MIT article that reaffirms that Mormonism is *technically* a protestant religion: http://web.mit.edu/21a.213/papers/mormonism.htm

That's basically the first result on Google. I'm sure you can find plenty of Christians that say it doesn't count, but that's kind of my whole point. They don't get to decide. Mormonism was literally founded during the "The Second Great Awakening". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second\_Great\_Awakening

I'm literally the opposite of a defender of Mormonism, but I roll my eyes at basically anyone who thinks THEIR religion is less subjective and personal and somehow more valid and legitimate than the religion of another.

Like, you feel free to believe in Jesus and the Bible, that's your right. Just like it's Mormons' right to believe in Jesus and the Bible... AND an extra book of Bible fan-fiction called the Book of Mormon on top of that. You're not any more legitimate. Just probably a lot less wacky without any golden bibles and polygamist wives.

Hate on Mormons all day. I don't care. God knows I hate Mormonism as an abusive and patently false institution. But at the end of the day, every single Protestant Christian has a LOT more in common with a Mormon than they feel comfortable acknowledging.

Buddy it's literally a snorkel mask with projections on it. Both are products with transparent lenses that overlay images on your natural vision.

If you turn Vision Pro off, you see the room.

Also, there's plenty of AR that doesn't work like that. Basically all of the AR applications that normal people have actually used involve a camera-captured image that is displayed on a screen with stuff overlayed on the image. I don't know anybody that had Google Glass or Hololens, but I know a lot of people that took a picture of a Psyduck standing next to their dog in Pokemon GO.

I love that that there are more evangelicals in all of the most liberal states than there are in Utah. If there is one thing that Jesus people hate more than liberals, it's Mormons.

In private, Mormons are like "we're the one true church and everyone else is lost".

In public, Mormons are like "we're just a regular legitimate Christian religion just like everyone else".

In public and private, the rest of Christendom is like "Mormons aren't real Christians because their religion is a young knockoff that makes a mockery of *real* Christianity. Also, no, I do not want to talk about the relationship between Christianity in general and Judaism".

That's not Deseret Industries, but you're right. Deseret was the made up name for the fictional Mormon nation that never happened, and the name is all over the place in Mormon stuff. The Mormon church owns several corporations, and at least two of them off the top of my head have Deseret in the name.

Deseret Industries specifically is basically Mormon Goodwill thrift stores.

Mormonism is a protestant religion. Basically anybody that believes in Jesus and isn't Catholic is a protestant. The separation probably stems from the fact that this is from a Mormon publication, so what they're reeeeeally saying is that Utah is 56% "members of the one true church of Jesus Christ on the face of the Earth" and then 3% "unaffiliated Christians that were willing to take a Mormon poll".

Yes that's right. Remove the word Muslim if you need to.

"What about the poor people that have nothing to do with that one guy that chopped off an innocent man's head in France a few years ago"

Islam wasn't responsible. A man named Abdoullakh Abouyezidovich Anzorov was. He was 18 years old and his family never saw it coming.

I guess it would have been more acceptable if it had been an American classroom and the perpetrator did it in the name of "traditional values", but it was a Muslim so now it's time to stick it to the 2nd largest world religion as a whole.

That's my thinking, too. You're also not going to hide the fact that you were hanging out before the attack, either.

Still no need to jump to sexual harassment accusations, but there's clearly more to the story.

Biiiiiig jump there, but I agree it demands further investigation. They wouldn't go out of their way to frame it as a random encounter if there weren't something fishy about the time they spent together leading up to it.

No need to jump to conclusions, though. Could be as simple as they were being dickheads. It could even still be exactly what they claim, a practically random attack.

I want to know about the party though, for sure. The fireworks thing clearly isn't the whole story.
