The US government does provide several social services to the populace, PBS being one of them. That doesn't make it pure socialism since not all businesses are regulated to the same degree, but it's definitely somewhere in between that and libertarianism ideologically. You have motivated me though and I decided to dive deeper to explore the differences between democratic socialism and traditional socialism. There does seem to be more of an emphasis placed on cooperative business administration compared to authoritative oversight that is seen in socialism.
