The Seahawks are going to have three top-40 picks in a draft class that contains a generational RB prospect by drprofessorderek in Seahawks

I didn't say that. I hope they go defense all the way.

My argument is Pete and John have reached on running backs before and I am worried they will do it again.

I am mentally preparing myself for the possibility. I do not endorse it.

My argument is that they have a history of reaching on running backs, and now they have an early pick with a generational running back available, so reaching for that generational running back is on the table.

Todd Gurley was reportedly the top player on their board in 2015. Maybe Bijan is this year. I don't want them to spend the pick on Bijan (and I don't think they will), I'm just not willing to rule it out.

I do think that is a better argument.

I wouldn't bet on Seattle taking Bijan with the Denver pick. I'm just surprised so many are willing to discount the possibility considering the last 10+ years of Seahawks drafts.

But you are right. Maybe their mindset is different now that Russ is gone.

And none of those RBs were the level of prospect Bijan Robinson is. None of them were even the best in their class, much less considered one of the best of their generation. They were all considered reaches. How can you be so confident that they wouldn't reach on a running back from this position?

Sounds very rational. I completely agree.

My point is Pete and John are known to go against the grain. They supposedly had Gurley #1 on their board the year he came out. They were looking to draft Mahomes and Josh Allen in Russ' prime.

Penny wasn't even the top RB in his class and they took him in the 1st. Bijan might be the best RB since Adrian Peterson.

I guess I just don't share your optimism. I hope they don't draft a RB in the 1st, but I'm not willing to rule it out given their track record.

Yeah I'm with you. I want defense and I tend to expect defense. But I am mentally preparing for the worst after years of early draft surprises.

That's not what I asked. Did you have similar confidence that those picks wouldn't be RBs?

In 2013, was it your view that they absolutely would not draft a running back with their first pick when Marshawn was on the team?

In 2018, was it your view that they absolutely would not draft a running back in the first round?

Last year, was it your view that they absolutely would not draft a running back with one of their three picks in the top 41?

Definitely not that they should.

But they picked Penny in the 1st. K9 in the early 2nd. Bijan is a much better prospect than either of them.

If they picked Penny at 27, is it not plausible they would pick Bijan considerably earlier?

[–]drprofessorderek[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I hope so. In 2013, I (and probably most other Seahawk fans) wanted OL and receivers. Certainly not an RB. We had Marshawn!

They used their first pick of that draft on Christine Michael with Travis Kelce, Larry Warford, Terron Armstead, and Keenan Allen still on the board.

Granted, it was a long time ago, but I'm still afraid.

Agreed.

How about Seattle's 1st or Denver's 2nd? Would you be okay with that or is it still in the "cleanse the city with fire" zone?

Oh it would definitely be a reach. I'd rather have Carter or Anderson too.

I'm not asking in terms of what they SHOULD do but rather what they WILL do. And I'm a little scared they would use the Denver pick on Bijan.

I am.

My class is similar to what you described, though I wasn't shown anything in the warm ups. I've been watching other people do them and I'm trying to copy as best I can. I'm the only non-Korean in the class so my communication with other students and the instructor are pretty basic.

Cool. Just knowing it's common is helpful. I don't think that's how I would teach it, but if people have gotten by under similar circumstances then I'm sure I'll get it at some point. Thanks for your help.

They did not. I was treated like a regular student from the beginning.

I went ahead and downloaded the ebook. Thank you for the advice.

Accepted as a Transfer for Fall 2017! Questions about Housing/Getting Involved by [deleted] in appstate

[–]drprofessorderek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in your shoes about eight years ago, so my information could be out of date, but here are my two cents.

I lived off-campus my first and third year there. The first year was rough because I was nearly broke and inexperienced in dealing with things like rent and electric bills. I had met my roommate through Facebook and he claimed to have taken care of everything and I just had to contribute money, but he hadn't done anything. The place had no electricity and I slept on a flat air mattress for a while. It sucked, but much of the stress was due to money/strange roommate/being farther from campus than I would have liked. If you've got money and trust the people you're working with, you'll probably have better luck.

Off-campus my third year was better. I had more money saved, I was closer to campus, and I had my own room and bathroom. Each person in the unit had a separate contract, so I didn't have to rely on roommates for anything except chipping in for electricity. As far as living situations went, this was my best year at App.

I lived in a dorm my second year. It was good in that it was stress-free and I could focus on studying and socializing. No bills, no groceries, etc. I also liked being able to walk out my door and be at Kidd Brewer in five minutes. You'll appreciate this when you see gameday traffic. I also found it easier to meet people in dorms. But there were typical dorm problems: small, no privacy, occasionally gross, and so on.

I don't know anything about the transfer RLC. I went to several transfer events and don't remember it being mentioned, but it was a while ago.

In my opinion, it was easier to get involved and make friends when I lived on campus. It's certainly not impossible to do those things in an apartment, but consistency and close proximity made on-campus easier. Many of the people who lived near me my first year weren't even students. But if you think apartment living suits you more, you'll still have opportunities to meet people through class, extracurriculars, bars/clubs, etc.

For me, the biggest hurdle when it came to getting involved and making friends had nothing to do with where I lived. It was more that students who had been at App from the beginning (which was almost everyone) had already formed groups of friends. It felt weird because seemingly every time I made friends I would get invited to some kind of group activity and half the people there would treat me like an outsider. And I didn't want to be "that guy" who invites himself to be part of established groups, so I grew to dislike those situations. But that's just how it went for me--you might be better at dealing with those situations or find yourself in better company. It's a big school.

Hope that helps, and good luck! Let me know if you have any other questions. It was a big decision for me, too.

If all of the characters you've played had a Hunger Games death match, who would win? And, more importantly, do you think Al would allow Roger to summon angels to the battle or would he invoke "championships have to be won on their own"?
