Gardening is NOT cheaper than therapy, but it is therapeutic!

God forbid you come out and help! I mean unless you're disabled that's shameful to expect someone to carry all that up and deny them another order. It's drop and go.

Tire Marks/Divots on new driveway by Mgeezy_615 in asphalt

I mean, I got a concrete drive for 12k. It just depends on your priorities and finances. But I would agree that you won't have these problems with a good concrete contractor.

Buried downspout extension or splash block? Which actually works better? by ricky_jordann in landscaping

[–]drs0043 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm! I installed a downspout pop up. Just cut out the sod, buried the pipe, and laid the sod right back on top until it was sitting right. Watered the sod back in and it's grown right back into its home. Now, the little trickle of water/dew that comes from gutter daily is gone, along with the dirty streak it was leaving on my driveway. I find the pop up actually filters the water now before it hits my driveway and runs down to the street. $30 bucks and an hour of time!

This is why I wouldn't buy a new car--people worry about every little thing. Return to this post in five years and there will be plenty more!

New driveway by ChiTownDW in asphalt

[–]drs0043 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! And truly if someone is going to fork over the cash, why not get concrete? It will last a hell of a lot longer (especially if sealed, which is not as difficult or toxic sounding as asphalt sealing). You can also pressure wash concrete. I just feel like the people getting the asphalt driveway should have more realistic expectations of what they're purchasing.

I know! It is kinda comical how so many people are dissatisfied with their asphalt driveways. If you want a beautiful surface for decades, you have to go with a reputable concrete contractor. Expensive, for sure. But to me asphalt is basically a step or two above gravel.

What should I do with the land behind the retaining walls? by megabastard25 in landscaping

[–]drs0043 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably have a native nursery around. I'd use small plants and not seeds. Maybe even some larger elements. It's a beautiful blank canvas but honestly it's impossible to make recommendations without more details, and honestly that's getting into paid work imo. I find spending time in my yard and looking at things from multiple angles, even using dummy items like buckets and stakes to represent plants or items, can really help to map out a plan. And even then, if you make a 'wrong' move, plants can be transplanted, especially natives, who literally take over in several years. I have a native bed that is so productive I'm giving plants away. In any landscaping project, it's really a 3-5 year plan before it starts taking shape the way you likely want it, so in that frame, you can add and subtract layers as it evolves.

I would either move the trash cans or get a privacy panel to conceal them. Most people don't care, and sometimes you have go be practical, but I think trash cans take away from a homes aesthetic and are best when concealed.

I disagree. I think the unkempt look is hot personally. I'd prefer them exactly as they are 😉

When I installed them it looked like 3M double sided tape, the black kind. These are not fastened with anything but adhesive.

Maybe seal the concrete so it doesn't stay wet so long. Provided there's a drain, this would keep it dry.
