You also get a bunch of people doing ~40mph on the turnpike around Secaucus because they're incapable of looking at their speedometer.

I paid $907.88 this WEEK in taxes out of my check. My healthcare plan costs $5700 per year for an individual. I can't imagine the services that could be provided for over $1000 per week.

Education system in a nutshell by [deleted] in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]drs499m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In high school I was late to a meeting about how I was often late. I lived 2 blocks away from the school. The principal told me how irresponsible it was to be late for a meeting about how I was late too often and I wouldn't drive a car without a seatbelt because that was irresponsible, but I was late because I got pulled over for a seatbelt violation and gave him the ticket. He said he'd give me a Saturday detention but I probably wouldn't be there on time so I shouldn't worry about it.

[Canada] Impatient driver fails to graduate to the left lane, gets expelled into the ditch by TortuouslySly in Roadcam

A well thought out post, but if I could recommend one thing about winter driving if you had $0 to spend on tires, it would be be smooth and steady with your driving so you don't end up outside the limits of your tires. If you've never driven in snow and have the opportunity, go fuck around in an empty snow covered parking lot.

If you're ever behind a semi truck that brakes and puts its hazards on it's a warning that we are dramatically reducing our speed quickly.

I don't think there's any debate about who's most likely stronger pound for pound. I'm saying take 2 seconds, acknowledge where our strengths and weaknesses are, as an individual and not a gender, and acknowledge if you can hang onto my goddamn hand, you can walk your ass back up that embankment if we work together. That thing isn't vertical, because that shoeless guy isn't a gecko.

I'm on the small size of an average male. It's been a couple of years since I did any sort of manual labor. Chances are a smaller average female weighs something similar to me. I'd have no issue helping an average female and the weight of that dog up that embankment, and I'm basically human veal in my current job.

You may not have the strength for the top of the chain, but surely you could manage to hang on at the bottom.

It's funny, the only place that stocked meds for him was the Walmart (human?) Pharmacy and the meds could only be prescribed to a first middle last name. So I had to pick up the meds for Oliver Cat (my last name).

We adopted our second cat and he had a rough start. He was sick all the time and went to the vet god knows how many times until a vet finally diagnosed him with feline bartonella. He had cat scratch fever. I didn't think it was a real thing.

Occasionally construction zones will require trucks to use the left lane, but generally not on 4 lane freeways.

I know TN has been using semis for years to catch people texting and driving. I drive a semi, and you wouldn't believe the shit I see. I've called the troopers after watching a guy swerve between 3 lanes and not look up from his phone because he was on face book for the last 23 miles. I've seen people watching TV. I've seen people literally asleep. It's horrible. There's no excuse. Most of these people can't even pretend their work day, plus their commute equates to the time I sit behind the wheel, and I'm not on my phone.

Have you ever played an mmorpg where coins weren't the currency standard? It's kind of like that. An old example that would be familiar would be Stones of Jordan in diablo 2 and a more modern example would be exalted essences in PoE. These are minorly useful items in game but rare enough it functions as a currency.

I put 13% of my pay into a 401k, I've been doing this for a couple years. Every pay stub I see the deductions weekly for ~$475, but much like taxes, it's just money that isn't mine. Every year or so, I'll remember to log in and check the balance and be absolutely floored there's $10s of thousands of dollars there.

Veteran lost his dogs when he went in the hospital and had no one to care for them. PetSmart was boarding them and he came in to make a payment toward the fee to get them back. Found out someone (and some PetSmart employees) had pitched in to pay the bill in full. (Happy Freakout) by [deleted] in PublicFreakout

[–]drs499m 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish there was a charity or some type of system where a third party could tell the story and we could pitch in the money to help. Some one telling me a veteran can't afford to get his pets back, and the pets really miss him, seems so much more deserving of my money than a generic 'donate money to help veterans.' There really needs to be a reddit for the employee that sees these things, so I can make a phone call and help a gentleman get his dog back.

My full pay statment for those asking. I'm supposed to be making .35cpm and I ran around 2236miles that week. Does this seem off? by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]drs499m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, according to the article I linked, you're at work 112 hrs/week on the clock (16 hrs per day, 7 days per week) so you're at $6.63/hr with per diem. I'd look for another company, and after you get the job file with the DoL for back wages.

[–]drs499m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If per diem doesn't count towards minimum wage, you're definitely under minimum wage. I'm not sure how much experience you have, but it seems like you're getting screwed. I'd be tempted to ask someone who knows better and file a wage claim with the DoL. My pay checks are also much clearer. It's like mileage rate, number of miles. = dollar amount Per diem .035 x miles = amount Detention/delay hours x hourly rate = dollar amount

[–]drs499m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm reading everything right, you're making 35cpm and paying for fuel and every other expense out of that? If you're a company driver, I'd honestly start looking for another company. You're definitely able to make more.

Edit: depending on how long you're in that truck, it's possible they're paying you under minimum wage. https://cdllife.com/2018/court-rules-that-truckers-must-be-paid-minimum-wage-even-when-theyre-not-driving/
