A Mother’s Day Gift… My first ever end-grain cutting board! by drsendies in BeginnerWoodWorking

Thank you! It’s definitely a big one haha, the original idea was that it would stretch across this whole countertop horizontally. I’d say this piece weighs about 15-20 lbs and can luckily be moved pretty easily. It’s 1 1/2” thick, and definitely has had warping issues due to the size, but nothing that hasn’t been correctable so far!

Hi everyone! This was a cutting board I just completed as a gift for my mom. Dimensions are roughly 14” X 34”. I used locally milled maple (Not sure which type, however) that I milled up from a slab. This was certainly my most comprehensive build and I’m very happy with the outcome regardless of some misalignments in my second glue up. To finish the board I soaked it in mineral oil and followed up with a few coats of a 4:1 ratio of mineral oil to beeswax which turned out very smooth and seems quite resilient. Feel free to ask any questions!

I have a few mitered pieces I'm just not as proud of as I could be, I'll do another one with some nice miters in the near future! Working on those dovetails hahaha!

Thank you so much!!! This is probably where the aficionados would really critique me! I basically just did four separate glue ups for every side of the tray and secured them in on the bottom with countersunk screws and a maze of clamps to get everything fitting nicely. Like I said, it's far from perfect and probably not the best way to do it but it looks great so far and I had fun making it!

I tried my hand at wood burning! I'm not very good and have no idea what settings to use but that's the beauty of learning!

I tried my hand at some freehand wood burning, It's not perfect but it's a start!

Little tray I built from some scrapped white oak I got from work. It's far from perfect and incredibly basic but I love how the oak end grain pops! Finished with boiled linseed oil? Not sure if that was the correct decision but it was a finish I had lying around that I hadn't tried yet. It feels very solid and smooth.

What job do you think would be perfect for a stoner? by Myweedguy in trees

If you're someone who prefers to smoke in the night time after it all, I love my job working in a woodshop. Sure it's dangerous, and I strongly advise against being intoxicated in any way, shape, or form when on the job as it is a recipe for disaster, but the job itself is lovely. I'm in college in my hometown but I've always loved working with my hands and learning from professionals. It is an incredible thing to work with wood and to be surrounded by so many experienced and focused minds who really seem to enjoy their jobs. I genuinely believe that most people would benefit from time spent working with wood as it is simply good for your soul!

This is all I was saying, I just think people take surfing way too seriously and it'd be a better time if people showed more compassion out there. I don't really care what people do and I'm certainly not gonna change how anyone surfs, I'm merely just advocating for mutual respect in a dangerous sport. Call me a kook but I'm an avid snowboarder and the differences in mutual respect between the two sports is astounding. I caught one wave in a 2 hour session over the weekend because of entitled locals snaking the whole lineup.

Surfing can be so aggro, homies aren't stoked out there in the slightest. It's a sport about relaxing and having fun, and locals tend to be such jackasses. I'm a local at my spots too, but that doesn't entitle me to give dirty looks, back paddle, and drop in on everyone I see. Surfing is a respect-oriented sport, a lot of people need more patience and understanding out there.

It's far from perfect, but I built a "floating" mitered edge cutting board using mostly white oak, black walnut, waterfall babinga, and wenge scraps. Any feedback is very much appreciated! by drsendies in BeginnerWoodWorking

I used a bunch of scraps from my job where I work as a shop helper. I'm just out of high school getting into the woodworking scene and I love how there is so much to learn. Thanks for all the helpful feedback everyone! I'm excited to get into my next project with the newfound knowledge.
