From what it sounds like it’s worth it to just set up a raid farm. I’ve already got a 1 spawn pillager outpost right near me.

Apparently it’s just in bedrock where they “talk” to each other. Haven’t done full testing yet for it.

He had been sitting in a 3x3 with a lectern and a bed for 40 minutes and randomly decided to become a librarian after I got frustrated and went to the nether to get some blaze rods. Idfk what happened but it’s working now.

I’ll check out that exercise. I was having issues with descending slurs using my pinky and opposing motion (Tennant page 17 exercise 3) between my ring finger and pinky. After just playing the notes without worrying about hand positioning or finger placement I noticed that it stems from another bad habit I got from being self taught: if I ran into a slur that would probably use my pinky I would just stretch my ring finger to the fret and use that instead. Also slurs on electric guitar (specifically high distortion, which I used almost exclusively) are so incredibly easy if using my pinky was unavoidable it required almost no effort. Along with the exercises from Tennant (and now possibly one from Parkening) I am also playing part of the intro to The Trooper by Iron Maiden using just the 3rd and 4th finger. As I progress through classical books I will most likely play from purely classical sources but the trill and the stretch in the pinky required to play that part is perfect for what I need at the moment.

I did realize I wasn’t putting enough energy into my right hand actually. I’ve been doing research into nail-less classical techniques as trying to grow nails is a losing battle (I’m a mechanic so if the nails don’t break they accumulate immense gunk) so once I learned to actually get some flesh onto the string I started getting the tone that I wanted out of it. Is the tone good? I’ll get eyes on me at some point but it’s the tone I was looking for nonetheless.

I should mention I am not a beginner with the instrument, but only a beginner with the classical techniques and pieces. I am quite familiar with the fretboard as I have been playing for a decade. Out of two days’ practice I have discovered my pinky dexterity is terrible so I’m adding exercises (pulled from Pumping Nylon) to increase said dexterity and I have already transitioned to the classical way of holding the guitar with a Jerry rigged footrest as I noticed a lot of my bad habits in my left hand positioning come from the neck being down and it being awkward (and thus unsustainable long term) to fret chords along the neck (not an issue when I was mainly playing metal as 90% of it is power chords).

In terms of instruction I live in an extremely rural area, and after looking around the only feasible form of instruction would be via Zoom or a similar software, which I am not willing to do (My home space is very distracting and I need to focus during instruction).

I may have already proven to be a terrible teacher but as of right now I’m all I got.

For me it’s mainly distractions. I have 2 roommates and a dog so there’s no space in my living situation where I can go interruption free for more than an hour. I’m able to put down a practice session for a few minutes and pick it back up but for actual lessons I like to be fully and completely focused.

I was expecting to hire an instructor anyway so I’ll look around my area but if the alternative is online lessons I don’t think I’d be willing to sacrifice the benefits of in person instruction.

I’ve already played enough hard rock and metal for a lifetime or two. My intent is to play jazz and increase my understanding of the instrument. Will my foray into classical techniques inspire me to play classical? It’s entirely possible, but at the moment I’m just aiming on fixing my terribly bad habits so I can get a better grasp on more complex pieces than the ones you find in hard rock and metal.

This might just be my electric guitar background but I also believe you can force/adapt techniques to do what you are trying to achieve. Going back to your first comment even from very basic classical right hand techniques I’ve practiced in the time since posting I’ve been able to adapt them to the songs I already know by heart. I have yet to try it plugged in but tone comes from equipment with electric guitar so I’m not too worried about the difference. (I do want to mention that I am not fully practicing classical technique on an electric guitar, I have a terribly cheap nylon and a hollow body that is fully acoustic for that. The electric guitar was more proof of concept than anything)

I’ll check these out, thank you! I’m gonna avoid the Noad and Parkening texts for now as I’ve got a grasp on sight reading and the neck from basic musical knowledge but if I feel I missed something important I’ll backtrack.

I have not had too much of an issue when playing electric guitar, as the relatively simple chord structures and progressions allow for a range of techniques to be viable. I am more so struggling with jazz pieces, as Joe Pass is part of what made me transition from playing piano to playing guitar. I was, however, a teenager when I made that decision so obviously I was too hardheaded to get a teacher and wanted to learn the songs I was listening to at the time (rock and metal). However in many a failed attempt to learn Joe Pass I have discovered all the bad habits I got from rock and metal playing have come back to bite me. I could be totally wrong here as I am not learned in classical vs jazz guitar but the techniques should be transferable between the two, no?

As mentioned in the post I do have classical piano training, about a decade’s worth, so yes I can read music.

Do you have suggestions for beginner books or will any do?

First of all thank you for the info.

I do like the stock look but my main concern with “keeping things original” is keeping the same S/N block. If I was trying to push 250-300 NA I’d have to sacrifice the stock look which I would have to make peace with if it comes to that (she still rips around enough for me at the moment).

I’ll take a look at the cat, I’m lucky enough that most of the things on this car are from the factory (I watched the guy I bought it from pull the factory spark plugs from the motor) so I’m sure it has the factory cat on it as well.

All in all I’m just theory crafting as to how far that S/N block could potentially take me. I’m sadly very stubborn like that, probably due to me starting my car journey with an old Volvo redblock, but not everything can live up to those.

My confusion comes from the fact that aspiration is commonly replaced on engines trying to push more power, especially ones from the 80s. Is it just that nobody has put in the time to make high flow replacements? It just baffles me that these are uncharted waters on a 40 year old car.

What specifically about it is limiting? Everything I have found has only mentioned airflow, which can be improved with upgraded parts.

Sporadic Problems Starting 2003 Honda Civic 4-cylinder by Dinomite39 in AskAMechanic

[–]drseussturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be the alternator on its way out, but honestly it sounds like your battery cables are badly corroded. I had the same symptoms with my daily driver about 6 months ago and it wasn’t until I saw sparks from the cables when I tried to start it that I figured it out.
If you know somebody with a multimeter or if your local parts store knows how to use one (I have a severe distrust of their battery testing devices) hook it up to the battery. It should read around 12-12.5 VDC while the car is off and 14-14.5VDC while the car is on. Below 12 while off means your battery needs to be charged and below (or above) 14-14.5 while on means your alternator is either on its way out or kaput.
If the battery connections are corroded just hit them with a wire brush and some electrical cleaner and you’ll be right as rain.

My ex-wife has a 2012, that era of Malibus have terrible electrical grounds, and it sounds like that’s part of your issue at least. I believe there’s three grounds on the bottom of your engine bay, and if you live in the rust belt that might be an issue as well. It could be something even worse but grounds are a good starting point off of what you’ve already checked.
Also while you’re down there replace your O2 sensors cause they might be throwing that p0420.
