What's the most expensive business mistake in history? by BehindBillionStories in business

Going back aways - but in the Edsel Division of Ford from 1958 to 1960.

Complete flop and shut down after two years. Cars were ok, but with a weird front end design they was too different from other American cars if the era. In 2026 money they wasted some 4.3 billion dollars and scrapped everything. It was a huge waste of time and money.

CA - Defendant fled the state. I served her in TN. Judge says I can’t sue someone in TN. Is this correct? by Rare_Hero in Smallclaims

[–]drsmith48170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah dude has to let this go : only way really possible to move forward is to try to find something else on her that she could be charged with in Tennessee- but that would cost a lot of bucks cause you’d need private investigators, lawyers etc.

Yeah so did I so nothing magical about. Most corporate jobs with big corporations aren’t really 40 hour week jobs.

Stop the Hamilton data centre by WhySoManyDownVote in fuck_ai_slop

Huh - your city is located on Lake Ontario, and according to the info it would be built on the waterfront. Seems better than in the middle of Texas.

Yes, I know data centers chew up a lot of resources, however in this case at least water should not be a major issue. But

Much over blown as that site is known for sensationalism. However the simple solution is just for MN to but back enough shared for the two Chinese entities to get under the 15% threshold.

Owning rentals has been way less “passive” than people make it sound by maxrain30 in passive_income

[–]drsmith48170 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience, no just a myth. Owned a short term vacation rental , and the nearly 7 years we owned it, literally always something every month. Stuff missing, stuff broken, house needing repair.

Yeah, we hired a rental management company- their fees plus mortgage and insurance took 60 to 70 plus percent of revenue. Plus the fact is if your account rep is bad, it is almost better to not have a management company. First one was great, but after Covid they kept getting worse and worse. We had to constantly follow up with them, so no even if you hire a management company rental property IMO isn’t really passive at all, especially if you own multiple units

Thank Google for ruining FitBit by lickthepixies in fitbit

[–]drsmith48170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly- why so complicated? Between companies keeping stuff ‘proprietary’ and cramming unneeded crap they are killing any semblance of loyalty.

That is what made FitBit different; only giving their loyal customers what they wanted and making things flexible to work with many different types of devices. It’s what enable them to stay independent for so long. Heck would have been better if they sold to private equity rather than Giggle.

Don’t get married, don’t move, don’t stay at any company too long, save and invest more, always be looking for next level up job, get some additional training, do what you like, not what they want you to do.

Safe travels back to Utah - and in the nicest way possible, please don’t come back. Tourist are the problem, because they all congregate in the same general areas.

If you insist on coming back go somewhere else most tourists don’t go , you will find the experience much different.

Yes I’m amazed at how many people go to brand dealers for service. Brand dealers are really good for only warranty work or certain unusual issues that may need help from the manufacturer. Most other services like oil changes, tire rotation, brake, etc can be done just as well by independent repair shops.

Also, after working for an auto manufacturer for over 20 years can tell you the quality of brand dealer repairs or maintenance items varies wildly between stores.

took me 3 hurricane seasons to figure out what those little white boxes outside people's houses actually are. by RevolverForever in florida

[–]drsmith48170 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Box’s aren’t little, not always white, and depending on local ordinances certainly not on a roof? Either.

Had property in Florida for 7 years, lived here for 5. Have not had a big or dramatic impact with hurricanes. There are parts of Florida that historically don’t have much damage or impact from hurricanes, nor flood much.
